Final Ruling:
All trades stand. Salary cap hit follows the player. So, for example, Cubs take the hit for McCovey. Commissioner will only get involved for collusion or if a manager is intentionally trying to throw the league.
Thanks to everyone for their comments. My favorite is Paul's comment [quote:06917d72c7]And I would never ever trade or drop Nate Colbert! He is the face of the 1969-74 Padres.[/quote:06917d72c7]
Bouton wrote that Doug Rader said to Colbert "I think your cute. Not ugly, cute, like an iguana." Colbert still holds the Padres career home run record (163). Tony Gwynn has all the other hitting records.
I personally believe that McCovey for Popovich + Marichal is a good trade for the Pads, and Unser isn't; but I usually have Popovich on my team and never have Unser, so that is probably a matter of taste. I hope the Padres win it all this season. For those who believe the trades are really unfair, they primarily affect the West division. There is no collusion.
I apologize for my comments about Carty and Yaz. I was wrong to make them and am sorry for my role in stirring things up.
I hope everyone sticks with the league.
Let's play ball!
