[quote:f6f9e07646]before your rule change. Popovich was just bad relative to original trade. Millan part is legit.[/quote:f6f9e07646]
I don't understand what this means.
And I don't get the part about "unfair" and "4 mil in cap saved." The same rules apply to everyone - I think that is, by definition, fair. The trade helps both teams - Cubs save on cap and Pads get a better 2nd baseman who can't get injured.
Millan is 3.5 mil, not 4. Also, the original trade was McCovey (13.35 mil) = third overall (Jones selected, 9.7 mi) + Popovich. Now it is McCovey (13.35) = Jones (9.7 mil) + Millan (3.5 mil). So, the net trade is essentially cap neutral. Also, San Diego can't use both McCovey and Colbert and I'll bet San Diego hasn't received a ton of offers for Colbert. Hegan hasn't even been drafted, so I'm guessing there is very little demand for a player like Colbert.
