Plenty of time before Opening Day

Postby jugslavin » Sat Mar 26, 2011 12:50 am

Okay, so we didn't make it for a Monday opener. Instead we have nothing but time to prepare...plenty and plenty of time...all the time in the world...an incredible, unbelievable amount of time...

In the meantime, we can set up the supplemental draft. It will run in the inverse order of last year's won/loss records:

1. Rockies (83 wins)...& 13th
2. Cardinals (86)...& 14th
3. Red Sox (89)...& 15th
4. San Diego (90)...& 16th
5. Rangers (90)...& 17th
6. Braves (91)...& 18th
7. Reds (91)...& 19th
8. Giants (92)...& 20th
9. Twins (94)...& 21st
10. Yankees (95)...& 22nd
11. Rays (96)...& 23rd
12. Phillies (97)...& 24th

1. Rockies (83 wins)...& 13th - Felix Hernandez,
2. Cardinals (86)...& 14th
3. Red Sox (89)...& 15th
4. San Diego (90)...& 16th
5. Rangers (90)...& 17th
6. Braves (91)...& 18th
7. Reds (91)...& 19th
8. Giants (92)...& 20th
9. Twins (94)...& 21st
10. Yankees (95)...& 22nd
11. Rays (96)...& 23rd
12. Phillies (97)...& 24th

I have 3B to trade (Mora or Stewart, both $3M+). I need LF or RF. Also could trade outfielders Smith or Spilborgs as part of a deal.

The Phillies are in. Brian Schneider will be available if anyone is looking for a pretty good catcher.

regarding the draft...

Postby johnbamberger » Sat Mar 26, 2011 11:39 am

How about this...
Obviously we start with 24 players from our own team. We are allowed to select two draft choices from the rest of the unselected teams. I suggest those two players can be moved at anytime for any reason after the upcoming draft. I also suggest we can fill out our roster with players no more than .75 mil to give us, perhaps, a third catcher or extra outfielder. At .75 mil, these players do not give a significant advantage but it does allow us some flexibility especially if a team in riddled with injuries. Also some teams, like me, that were naturally low in the team salary cap have extra money but unable to use it due to constraints.
What say you all?

Loading the league

Postby jugslavin » Sat Mar 26, 2011 12:27 pm

Once we get the league filled, we can move all of this to the league's own email system, including the draft. Once the league is up, we can start making trades as well as claiming our draft choices. There will be no waiver period so claiming those draftees can happen immediately.

I see no problem with flipping out our draft choices for other still available players not with any teams in our league after the 2-round draft is completed (meaning only those two players in exchange for other non- affiliated players). This would have to take place prior to the start of the season.

By the way, once the auto-draft is completed, please make sure you got all of your players. In the event players who belong to other franchises landed on your roster, please alert the other franchise and make that exchange. If there are players of yours out there in the FA pool, retrieve them.

I like the .75M player swap idea. I think some teams need this flexibility. I chose the Rockies and there are only 14 position players available in the set. And two of them are 3b and cost over $3M each.

Blockbuster Trade!

Postby tplatypi » Sat Mar 26, 2011 6:00 pm

Cockies sources today announce a blockbuster trade with the Yankees. The Cockies with send Felix Hernandez, the recently acquired free agent, along with utility outfielder Seth Smith to the Yankees for CC Sabathia and Nick Swisher.

The trade gives the Cockies a much needed power hitting RFer, but moves Cy Young winner Hernandez before he even got a chance to suit up as a Cockie.
