An update

This probably isn't the best place to post it, but I have a recommendation that I think would improve the game. I think you should be able to have greater control over how individual players approach base running. Currently, you can only select how your entire team will approach base running, e.g. aggressive, normal, etc. Although most of your players will probably follow the same strategy, you may have some real flyers at the top of your lineup and you'll want them to always be aggressive. For example, if I'm playing a series against an opponent that has three outfielders with strong arms, I'll surely want players like Ortiz or Konerko to be extra conservative when running the bases. But I'll always want guys like Pierre or Gardner to try to score from second on a single. I think this extra control would make the game more enjoyable.

I know nothing about programming, so I don't know how simple this would be to implement, but I have a (seemingly) relatively simple way to go about salary cap drafting.

The minimum salary in the 200X games is .50, so basically you program it so the system does not let you draft any player that would not let you fill the remainder of your roster with .50 players.
Another way to word it would be anytime a pick would take your average salary available per person under .50.

For example, lets say you have 2 million in cap space and 2 picks left.
Any pick above 1.5 million would leave you with not enough cash for a .50 player, so all players above that salary would be grayed out and unavailable to be picked.

if you have 3 picks left and 3 million in cash, if you draft a 2.2 million player, that leaves an average of .40 that could be spent per player, to that pick is invalid. The computer will gray out all players above 2 million salary at that point in the draft for that manager.

Those were simple examples, but the computer could mathematically figure out who is undraftable salary wise regardless of the number of picks left. As long as the average salary you could spend stays above .50, then the pick is valid.
You could do the same just as easily with the mystery card games, just change the .50 to .75.

Is there anything fundamentally wrong with this idea that I have not thought of?

Bernie,

When SN did Fantasy Baseball, they had a commissioners option to buy a league. The regular cost of a team was something like $20, but I could buy the league for $100 and sent invites to my friends to play. Maybe something similar could work for SOM.

[quote:b66e71a735="toronto50"]new 24 team league playoff system?[/quote:b66e71a735]

Or, for much more engaging seasons, how about two 12-team leagues with inter-league play?

We could still use the regular 12-team playoffs, but then follow that with a true World Series...

This could be done in a similar fashion to the "Don't Relieve Before" rating by selecting some number above or below which you always run or never run. A potential problem with this is that your desire to run may change throughout the game. I am guessing that the general "very aggressive" through "very conservative" ratings somehow attempt to incorporate a hard value with the flow of the game.

SN/SOM get $300 for a 12 team league ($24.95X12).

Assume 1 or 2 teams are free credits from a championship win or finals loss.

What is the profit margin from a league that brings in $250-$300.

I can see new seasons (2010) or new games (BTT90s/ATG updates) remaining at $24.95 but once you recoup costs and make a certain percentage of profit, why not lower the price. People are still going to play the new games but the $24.95 price keeps others away from older games.

Has dropping the prices of the 200X games increased the number of leagues or kept them active?

The 12.50 leagues, 2004, 2005, 2007 (the 2006 season one) fill up in 6-8 weeks. So there is activity. But when was the last time anyone joined a 2008 league. It would seem to make sense to drop a year off the back end of the list as a new season is added.

To me, the next "big" project needs to be fixing the subbing and lineup creation when you have injuries or pitching changes.

But, I can see how something that will bring in $$$ will be a priority.

I know this has been asked for in years past and if it's been implemented I don't know about it, but why can't we access our team's play-by play without blinking our eyes and having to do fast scrolls to get past the recaps and box scores.

After clicking on you team just give an option of going to the front office or viewing the games. If you select view the games you get a page with plain links to game 1, game 2 and game 3 (no scores or blurbs). When you click on those links the play-by-play comes before the box score so that you don't have to do a fast scroll and risk seeing anything that might give away the outcome. When the page comes up it would be empty except for the first play of the game at the bottom. Then I could just scroll until it was clear I lost another and check the box score then click back and check the next game.
