Before we begin

It's not that I am unappreciative of the hard work gathering up this list, I surely have no desire to do it. However, off the top of my head without researching, I already notice a missing player that should be desired by most folks. Now, we either draft ONLY from the available list, or we fine tune it and get it complete. I've neither the time nor desire to compete against folks with time on their hands if we allow drafting "from the list, PLUS anyone else you might find missing". Either we complete the list or draft from the list only.

I certainly understand where you are coming from. If the general consensus is to fine tune the draft list.... Well, I'm going to need some help/input from the rest of the league. I'll make the adjustments to Aardsma, Pena, and Hart. Please email or PM anything other adjustments

The Draft

Postby timklucinec » Wed Apr 06, 2011 11:26 pm

In response to Jerlins' comments, I apologize for the mistakes that were made and appreciate members pointing them out. It is a tough job to compile a list. There are almost 300 Hitters alone not to mention the Pitchers. So if there only a few mistakes, that isn't too bad. As Frank put it earlier in so many words you subtract the guys that are on your teams and the rest are Free Agents. The last season FA Draft, we didn't have a list nor the Initial Draft. I thought it would be good to have a list. In regards to the comment about "folks with a lot of time on their hands" I'm not sure what that means, but I can tell you that I don't and Drew doesn't either. I play in 2 other keeper Leagues plus Independent Leagues and I am a high school teacher. We are only human and not perfect by any means. So if there are mistakes, please point them out and we will correct them and go from there and start playing ball and get better. This is my first time as a commissioner. I did not want to see this league fold when Litangel stepped down. Nobody stepped forward to run the league. So let us work together and have some fun and compete.

Well, just taking a quick glance, and basing it off of a just completed draft, just in pitchers with the last name beginning with A, there are 6 missing from the available list. If there are 6 just in the letter A, I can assume there might be a good 75 to 100 players still missing from the availability list, maybe more.

Again, it's not an easy task, and is something I surely would not want to have responsibility for. Again, I'm cool with drafting ONLY from the availability list if everyone is so impatient to begin this league. However, if it's a "everyone is responsible" for their selection, then I have to bow out. I specifically asked before I joined this league if there was to be a secretary for this actual reason. I'm fine with the prospect end of it being responsible, but surely not the FA draft.

Last year was a breeze, as EVERYONE was available. I just haven't the time to go cross-referencing EVERY player I "think" might be available, especially when pressured with an ongoing time clock. The NAKL league I am in just completed its draft. The availability list was complete, the draft ran like clockwork, and if I recall, there was maybe one time someone had to repick. Without an accurate and complete list, I can see nothing but problems.

Everyone is so anxious to get the league going, heck, we still have TWELVE months before the next set comes out, and our seasons are eight weeks long. Lets either get it right or not at all.

Jerlins,
Drew and I want to fine tune the List so we can have a good product and draft. What did you find that was missing?

I'm all for putting a hold on the league draft to get the draft list correct. Jerlins, please email or pm me the players that should be available.

FYI---- The way I compliled my list was copy and pasting all the players that are on current rosters and making an A-Z on a current roster list. The available player list were copy and pasted from the excel spreadsheet of available players on the front page of 2010 SOM strat-o-matic. I then deleted the players that were on the current roster list from avilable players list. I thought I could possibly miss deleting some players (ala Pena, Hart, Aardsma) but I'm not sure how I'd be missing players unless the list I copied and pasted from wasn't up to speed. So yeah, email me PM me, we'll get it right.

Ok, I just reread the rules, and unlike the other leagues, players must appear on the TSN website, which could possibly make this list complete. That's cool, but I'd like to propose only those players on the list are eligible, and if any player was missed, dem's the breaks. Personally, it's unfortunate so many players will not be eligible for the draft. I like speculating on players receiving so few at bats but could or have won jobs in the present year.

I was just comparing lists of my other league to this one and found a total of 15 missing players just from the letter A. But, none were issued cards by TSN, though Strat made cards for them.

So what is the order of the Prospect Draft then? Is it the same as the available? Would only make sense as I have a team that finished LAST in record and would get the 1st pick in a Prospect/Rookie Draft. Please clarify.
