70's & 80's in New Interface

Postby YountFan » Sat Apr 02, 2011 5:03 pm

Seeing is the new interface supports the mystery card with the advent of the 90's, how hard could it be to move the cards for the 70's and 80's over. One would assume the card structure in the database is the same (or nearly so)

Thoughts?

I happen to like the 80s interface quite a bit better better.

That and when the main site goes down or is running slowly, the 80s site always seems to be working fine.

On the other hand, I'd still love to have extra players added, and the better bullpen controls, so I'm a little bit torn.

The interfaces are like night and day. For me personally, it is a much better experience using the 90's/ATG interface. More bullpen options. Easier to set up your hitters. Just all around more user friendly. I really think that if they updated the 70/80's more people would play. Just my two cents.

In talking with Bernie about this previously, they are not on the same interface...putting the 70's and 80's games onto the main engine that does the 90's/ATG/20xx would require quite an undertaking...remember that the 90's game was created from scratch onto the main engine...my guess is the 70/80's games would have to be done in the same way

I think YountFan's point is that the main game now has mystery card support, so logic would state that the bulk of the work is already done. Now all he needs to do is transfer the card data over to the main site.

My understanding is that it doesn't work that way...it would be like making a new game

The hard part of adding support for the Mystery Card format to the central site was done with the '90s game. And a major incentive for doing so was so that we could migrate the '70s and '80s games over. FYI, we are currently in planning discussions with SOM and I've been lobbying for doing at least one of the two by the end of the year. Fingers crossed/no promises...

Most of the work involved in migrating the '70s or '80s will be the importing of the players over, because the player ID systems are old/inconsistent. In other words, I could be faced with going through the set, player by player, matching and/or changing each of their player IDs as appropriate. Annoying, but feasible. Then, of course, we'll be re-pricing the players using our more current formulas, so that will take some time to get just right.

I know I've been saying this for a few years, but: stay tuned.

Don't you dare increase the price of my Ralph Garr!!! (Although if you reduce the price of Morgan and/or Schmidt it might be all the same on my 70s keeper team)

I think the 70's prices wouldn't change radically unlike a repricing of the 80's game when the pricing system wasn't nearly as well tuned as it is now.

If TSN/SOM only moves one of the older mystery card games in 2011 I hope it is the 80's which needs the facelift and updated pricing the most. While they are doing this they could very easily add more players which is also needed as well as give names to Rickey, Roger, Jesse and Barry.
