1st Time Player: Lineup Evaluation

Postby LADodgers4Life » Wed Apr 20, 2011 8:56 am

Hello everyone!

This is my first time playing Strat-O-Matic and was wondering if somebody could give me some sort of direction to go for my lineup. I loaded up on hitters and unfortunately wasn't able to get Tulo or Cano in my lineup like I planned.

Here is the link:

I still have 6.05M left and I will be dropping A.J. Ellis and possibly some others to pick up some of the guys still on the waivers. McCann is still there, as well as Shin Soo-Choo, Justin Upton, etc. My initial thought is to get McCann or Ruiz (because he is a lot better defender) and then hopefully get another reliever. Right now Riviera is still out there and so is Hong Chih Kuo (who I would love to have.

Let me know your thoughts! Oh, and my homepark is Coors Field.

The link doesn't work...go to your team, and in the dropdown box on the upper right corner select your team then use that link

Whose available on the waiver wires at 2b, CF, LF, and C?

You're gonna need some big bats to keep up with the runs you'll give up with that pitching squad in coors. Luckily your starters have fairly few bphr's so that should help.

All pitching theme league?

If you're going so light on arms, I might spend on a Rivera or Kuo and get as many innings as possible out of them. But I'd also look to upgrade the rest of your pen. I'm guessing they'll get a lot of work.

Ellis is a w both sides of the card. I'd look for a cheap replacement with +BP hrs. Not as worried about defense.

No it is not an all pitching themed league but it does seem that most other lineups aren't as good as mine.

I am curious though. Why you ask waivers for 2B, CF, LF? I have Carlos Gonzalez and Pedroia. I know my starters are not good but I purposely got ones that have low #BP. I guess for my strategy to work I'll need to get one more good reliever like Kuo and maximize him. I just think I need one more bat in the lineup to be good. I think have enough pop to compete. My division is pretty weak.

Shin Soo Choo, McCann, Posey, Ross, Torii Hunter, Rios, JD Drew, Chris Young, and Ethier are left in the waivers.

Pedroia has an awfully high injury for that much money to be spending on him. He's a great card, but if he spends 30 to 50 games on the bench is he worth it?

I'm asking about CF and LF to look at replacing pierre. CarGo can play either of those so filling in the other with the best available will help.

Posey should have a field day in Coors. If you can nab him I would. That should leave you about 2.5 mil.

You could either try to upgrade Pierre or your bullpen.

Also if you do decide to come down from Pedroia - i recommend Will Rhymes - big drop in Defense but a solid consistent #2 hitter from both sides of the plate. Good contact and no double play rolls against one side and only one on the other (can never remember which) That should free up some money to work with also.

Just my thoughts.

Oh wow I didn't even pay attention to his injury rating. Ill probably see if I can replace him and get Posey and upgrade my bullpen and just lead Pierre off.

Rickie Weeks, Ian Kinsler, KellyJohnson, Cuddyer, Betemit, and Zobrist are still available.

Tough call.

Weeks, Betemit, and Johnson are all butchers at 2b (4e?) - Personally i don't like to drop below a 3 in the middle infield as they see the most fielding opportunities. Cuddyer is even worse at a 5.

Kinsler is another high injury risk - I'd keep the better fielder/hitter in Pedroia if that's the switch out.

Zobrist is an interesting choice. Can play 2b well defensively, could fill in the leadoff roll (though it's mainly getting on with BBs) and allow you to find a heavier bat at LF.

Still not super sold on any of those though. Maybe you go with Pedroia nad find a decent BU like Brignac maybe. You could upragde Izturis here as he can effectively BU both middle infield positions. I normally wouldn;t advocate such a high priced BU but with a 4 injury at 2b you may need him.
