[quote:3a01a7e717]I think that's what the marketing efforts have to hit upon - those who have a passion for baseball. I believe that passion goes hand-in-hand with a passion for stats associated with the game. [/quote:3a01a7e717]

I agree with keyzick's statement. I was a not a Strat-a-holic growing up. I bought the 1977 game and cards, but never played much. And I do apologize to Chuck Scrivener for my daschund peeing on his card, although his stat line deserved more abuse than simply dachshund urine.

I love [b:3a01a7e717]baseball.[/b:3a01a7e717] Strat is just an avenue for me to enjoy the game, the stats, and the great players from over a century of baseball that we get to utilize in ATG.

And, in this down economic time, I do wish the cost of a team was [b:3a01a7e717]cheaper[/b:3a01a7e717]

I do agree with John Gebby's post, though it doesnt address the issue of how to get more people playing Strat here at TSN. I suggested that we be able to designate a drop if we have a trade imbalance either by cash available or roster makeup. The drop would be part of the trade if it is consummated, and i believe it would encourage more trading.

Alright, Bernie. It's been a month since the initial post. The Semi-Finals thing is fixed (supposedly). What are you going to be working on now? I know that "wish list" is still lengthy ...

A number of threads have been started (one just yesterday by me in the 20xx forum) expressing concern over the difficulty of executing trades in salary capped leagues. Is there some possibility of rejuvenating the trade market through some logistical changes?

In the original post Bernie stated that he was scheduled to meet up again with his people the following week and compare notes. What was the result of that?

Here is a thought as Uke might say is just a bit outside in relation the proverbial box.

Bernie appears on Oprah. She buys a dozen 5 packs for everyone in studio audience and a 5 pack for everyone in the television audience via some one time use discount code. Plus an additional 5 pack for anyone currently receiving unemployment.

That would cost the big O a lot less than giving everyone a car. And should get a lot of new people hooked. Bonus, Bernie gets paid an appearance fee and TSN is out nothing in advertisement expense other than Bernie's airfare, room and meals.

[quote:7c3d126c0f]I have absolutely no problem with spending $24.95 for 8 weeks of entertainment.[/quote:7c3d126c0f]
Several have said something along these lines. On the surface it is hard to argue with this logic. But it never felt right. This morning I realized why.

Most of the fun for many is putting a team together. For several I have talked to once season starts team is mostly ignored until playoffs if the team makes it. They are moving on to their next team.

So do you really get 8 weeks of entertainment? How much time do you actually spend on a given team over those 8 weeks? There are movie theaters in town where I can see a movie for a buck. I can see 25 of those for the cost of one team. Going weekly that is 25 weeks of entertainment. If I do not have $25 I can get some entertainment by using one dollar to see one movie. To play strat at all I have to plunk down the full $25. For a person struggling to make ends meet that is a steep entrance fee.

A person like myself who is already addicted will pay what it takes to buy a 5 pack and play regularly. But for someone not already hooked and on a budget that is a significant barrier to entry.

But I understand economics. Without increased volume decreasing price does not make sense. So in the end it all comes down to increasing customer base. That means the ultimate question is how to get the word out and attract new players. In other words how can it be better marketed?

Remember that we can play the older versions(2006 and older)for only 12.50. I personally love the older sets and there are a lot of vets that play them so competition is good. The added bonus is that any credits you win can be used on the newest set. I haven't paid for a 2010 team yet and still have 4 or 5 credits in the bank.

My favorite sets, 2002,2005 and growing to love 2003.

I was thinking the older/cheaper sets ran on a different server and therefore credits were not transferrable between the two.

Added thought for the wish list...

Postby Sknsfan » Fri Apr 29, 2011 1:37 pm

I would love for the Line-ups page to list my batters stats against that sided pitcher instead of their overall stats. So i could do a quick view of how well my hitters were doing against lefties or righties.

I would think this could be a simple scripting fix - the site already calculates the information on the team home page when you look at righty/lefty splits.

Any one think this is worthwhile?

I've made that same request just about every year for the past six years....I totally agree with you. At least one of them got a reply from Bernie, saying he'd look at it...but nothing ever came of it.
