BigMahon needs to repick

Postby qksilver69 » Wed May 04, 2011 9:53 am

Hi guys,

Sorry I think BigMahon needs to repick - Leonys Martin has not yet signed formally with the Rangers, and only signed minor leaguers can be drafted in the prospect draft.

Bill can you confirm my interpretation here?

Thx,

Qk

Well, now the signing is official, but pretty sure when BigM posted the pick it wasn't because it was before MLB/TX offices opened, and ESPN says the signing is official as of today. Don't want to split hairs here, I'm fine either way but I think we need a ruling.

I believe Bill runs USKL3 like I run GMKL - you cannot draft players in their draft year regardless of whether they're signed

Yes but he's not a draftee, he's Cuban so he's an international signee, was never drafted or draft-eligible.

Ahhhh....that's different.

I don't want to put words in Bill's mouth, but if this came up in GMKL I'd probably allow it to stand....

unless it was Dave doing the picking - then I'd outlaw it instantly and create a new rule immediately... :P

I made sure he was officially signed before I posted my pick. Perhaps there is some way to verify the exact time that he put pen to paper?

I also searched the rules. If there is language somewhere that says I can't draft a signed player, then I'll re-pick.

No problem Big, maybe it's a time difference issue? As of this morning when you posted, neither MLB nor ESPN had confirmed the signing, both just said it was imminent.

MLB posted the actual deal a few hours after your pick:

Went back to the rules, don't see anything in there about Cubans.

I googled his status this morning, and there were several reports that he was signed. If I had known that this would be an issue, I would simply have delayed my pick until the Rangers made it 'official'.

Common sense here please?
