SOM Online update: growth initiatives, ATG, Mystery Card...

Postby nevdully's » Mon May 23, 2011 5:07 pm

In the original post I [i:8e7d649d65]thought[/i:8e7d649d65] it talked about price reduction for existing customers...

Not much for my taste here since new cards aren't such a hot box of rocks for me.

Good ideas bernie

One question about sporadically adding new cards..........will there be a way to keep the existing set for multi-season franchise leagues if you so choose? Some of the Multi-Season Franchise Leagues I play in are carefully crafted to try to formulate competitive teams, and if there are new cards dropped in and removed on a regular basis, it will be difficult to keep all the teams competitive throughout multiple seasons.

Could be a choice to pick the "Current ATG6" when setting up a team, with the ability to use the newest cards that have just come in, OR you could pick "Default ATG6" or whatever, enabling you to keep playing with the same set over multiple seasons.

I currently play in 5 franchise leagues, 3 of which i set up myself, so I know that something like this would be beneficial.

Sounds like ur pricing model is set but the logic is severely flawed.

If all WalMart thought of is take existing customers and how many more units would they buy at a lower cost, they'd never lower any prices.
They lower prices to attract new customers - better to try and sell a million glasses of lemonade at 5 cents then 1 glass at a million dollars.

Value per $ spend is the watch word, esp in this bad recession and with the cost of technology at a rediculously low cost.

Wal*Mart does this other thing, aside from offer (theoretically) low prices. They advertise the hell out of the low prices. So, even when the prices aren't all that low (they really aren't, at least according to everything I've read on the subject), the perception is that they are very low.

This is a stretch, but the marketing of the game needs to be more aggressive. The pricing is what the pricing is.

In defense of the pricing. I spend $9-12 for a movie, which will fully engage my attention for 2 hours. So, for me $6 is my full engagement entertainment value per hour. You could nudge it up, and add in a large diet coke, but that makes my case stronger. Now, Strat is not as fully engaging as a movie for as sustained a period of time, but... team construction/draft strategy, drafting, waivers, lineups, 9 weeks of box scores, playoffs (maybe)... at $20 I think I'm getting a better deal than movies. Even at $25.

EDIT: One more thing:
Assuming you can complete the sale, 1 glass of lemonade at 1 million dollars = way more money than a million glasses at a nickle a glass. But that's not really what we're talking here, is it. What we're talking is selling one hundred thousand chocolate bars at $1 a piece, or trying to get new customers by selling it for $.85 a piece. How many new customers will that gain?
I remain in the camp that the marketing of the game across TSN and SOM platforms and beyond is the way to grow the base. The trial offer is a nice attempt at "crack dealer" marketing, but unless you tell people about your promotion, your promotion is useless.

I wholeheartedly agree. I think TSN/Strat is missing the BIG picture.

In my practice, I'd rather have 10 BRAND NEW or REACTIVATED patients paying half the normal price than 1 paying full price. 10 more happy people means more chances for referrals.

HAL's moves disected

Postby djkalle » Tue May 24, 2011 10:14 am

I will love the ability to see the game play-by-play. BUT, can you imagine how many more owners will realize how bad HAL manages our teams. There will be some broken computer monitors as an owner hollers, "CHANGE PITCHERS ALREADY," and HAL leaves him in for three more batters in a game #7 championship loss.

Overall, I think most owners appreciate the effort to improve the game. Thanks Bernie!

ATG Roulette

Postby artie4121 » Tue May 24, 2011 11:20 am

I'm going to request that you explore something that will create -- on the fly -- a fascinating possibility, IF it is doable.

How about an ATG "randomizing" option where you can sign up for a league where t[i:38b1aee0f1]he player pool is cut roughly in HALF, with managers not knowing WHICH players would be in the pool until you sign up? [/i:38b1aee0f1]

This league might have Babe Ruth, but no Mickey Mantle or Barry Bonds. Maybe not every card of every player.

In this way, those courageous souls selecting this option would have to simply make due with whatever players ARE in the pool in that particular league.

Just a random idea.

Any thoughts on this, or is it even feasible with the data base the way it is?

Artie

p.s. And thank you Bernie for wanting to make the SOM-TSN experience more rewarding for us all!

Didn't you mean "inmates" instead of "patients?"

I wish they would just automate pricing changes every month based on usage. It would artificially give the game a newer feel and make/unmake bargains that were never there before.

I like what's coming up on the horizon! I hope the '80s game makes it to the central site.

Or, maybe everyone can be given a random pack of cards.
