SOM Online update: growth initiatives, ATG, Mystery Card...

Postby keyzick » Fri May 27, 2011 2:27 pm

Funny thing is, whenever I travel or just am not on my home computer, I have to click through so many different screens just to find SOM on TSN - and I've been playing this for almost 10 years now!

At least I can bookmark at home - hard to tell friends "just click around on the TSN site, they hide it, but eventually you'll stumble into SOM. It's a great game, but just make sure you save the URL or you'll have a helluva time navigating back to it every day."

I think Geekor's screenshot speaks volumes.

I like geekor's idea of running more games per night at say $10 - I like the draft and the playoff the best

I just had a crazy idea. Some guys are complaining the player pool is big enough & will only get bigger as Bernie adds new cards each month.

How about using the Live Draft app to do a reverse draft. Instead of drafting players you want to use, you are drafting players who will be dropped from the set. Instead of 25 rounds, it would be say 5, 10 or 15 rounds.

It would be better if there were a salary cap for this. So say the salary cap for the reverse draft is $100mill. You would be required to select players to hit the minimum cap.

Then once you finish the reverse draft, you go to the regular 25 player live draft.

...Another idea I have had and posted this a number of times before, it to be able to play sub-sets within a league. So, for example, 6 teams could play AL vs 6 teams NL or Pre-WW2 vs post WW2. or whatever new subsets to be created.

Here's another idea..

Customized player sets. Based on the shifting sands theme.

Have an app where you can filter out certain player stats/team/year attributes.

The app would have up to 12 filters. Though you would not necessarily have to filter that many fields. You would then be able to play that customized sub-set.

While I'm on a roll...

How about downsizing the 24 team format, which no one plays & doesn't fill, to a 16 team format (4 teams x 4 divisions.)

How about fixing the play-off structure in the 24 team format before creating a 16 team one

How many people are playing the 24 team format. I rarely ever see any that get close to filling. Trash the 24 team format & create a new 16 team format.

As replacement commish of the 24-team keeper league, I can confirm that it's been a difficult format.

This year, in fact, we are playing as the 2x12 TKL with a premier and a not-so-premier league, in order to keep more managers involved for more of the season. We will move teams up and down between seasons, as in British soccer.

Either way, though, a 24-manager draft in the chat threads is brutal!
