LF D Choice

Just curious - I've got an '01 team just underway, public league. I'm playing in New Comiskey, bit of a banger team. Anyway, between Millar and Sheffield, one's DH and the other LF.

Millar 4(+1)e4
Sheff 4(-1)e7

I've started with Millar there for two reasons: lower error rating and I have HAL sub in a 2(-1)e6 scrub in late innings with a lead, and figure between Millar and Sheffield I'm better off not taking Sheff out of my lineup and still improving my late inning D.

Should I approach this differently? Would Sheff's better arm mean anything significant?

Just out of curiosity, what are the CF/RF arms like?

This might be just me, but normally I would start Sheff. In LF a difference of 3 errors is not that much, but a difference of 2 in throwing is pretty significant. Normally you can put your worst arm in LF but I would still take a gain of 2 in the arm over a loss of 3 in errors. However, you do have decent arms in RF and CF so it's pretty much a wash.

I agree - 3 errors over the course of a season is meaningless. The throwing arm advantage is a much more worthwhile focus.

Would you let Sheff stay in late, and not be replaced defensively in order to preserve his bat in the lineup?

I generally [i:5c3bc92c66]do[/i:5c3bc92c66] make defensive replacements, especially if he's a 4. If he were a 3, maybe not, but a 4 can be costly.

Hi,

I would go with Millar in LF the e rating comes into play each time. The throwing arm may or may not come into play. Plus you are not going to have Sheff come out for D late in the game and miss an AB.
