X Rolls and Defense

X Rolls and Defense

Postby beavis » Wed Jun 15, 2011 7:32 am

When does a player's error/range rating come into play? Is it factored in each directional hit ([b:1a988401ea]fly(rf)B?[/b:1a988401ea]) or just on X rolls ([b:1a988401ea]GB(2b)X[/b:1a988401ea])? My assumption was X rolls only.

I've built a purposefully leaden, porous team and I'm trying to determine precisely how leaden and porous they are compared to their more ... situationally aware opponents. First, I need to make sure I've got my variables right ...

x rolls only - they are on the pitchers card only and there is a fixed number on every pitchers card - don't remember how many but ss, 2B and CF are the most important places to have a 1 andor low Es

Here's a link that gives u an idea how important

rjoh is right and not quite right.

He's right in that x rolls are only on the pitchers' cards and there's a fixed number (see list below); however, some players' fielding can come in to play in other situations. The situations in which arm or range is also used are:
advancement of baserunners (1st to 3rd or home, 2nd to home) - OF arm
catcher blocking home plate - C range
outfielder robbing a home run - OF range

Also, keep in mind that infielder(s) range will go down one when holding a runner on (e.g., a 2e20 becomes a 3e20):
Runner held at 1st, LHB -- 1b & ss holding
Runner held at 1st, RHB -- 1b & 2b holding
Runner held at 2nd, LHB -- ss holding
Runner held at 2nd, RHB -- 2b holding
Runner held at 3rd -- 3b holding

X-Chances on pitching card:
[code:1:9c261a174d]c - 3
1b - 2
2b - 6
3b - 3
ss - 7
lf - 2
cf - 3
rf - 2
p - 2[/code:1:9c261a174d]

I'm pretty sure the robbing HR rule is not in effect in the online game.
Catcher blocking the plate I believe is though.

This is all helpful -- thanks.

With this particular team I tried to choose a couple of strikeout heavy pitchers with the thought that this would limit how much my fielders would have to make a play. I guess all I did was limit double play/sac fly opportunities.

In fact, while strikeouts can come in handy in crucial situations, you want to find pitchers with gbA on their card more than Ks.
