New Theme League-Leonard Pope League- combined with LP Phils

Inspiration for this league came from the pelzer league/pelzer. It will be a three season theme league based on three tiers of players with a small keeper element.

There will be three seasons, all three will use the 2010 set. First season only players eligible will be from the bottom twelve teams in MLB-
BAL, CLE, KC, LAA, SEA, WASH, CHC, PIT, ARI, HOU, MIL, and NYM. [b:6a301e9df9]Note that you may take players from any of those teams, your team is not franchise specific[/b:6a301e9df9]. MLB team-player ownership is based on 2010, for example, someone like Jayson Werth would be considered a Philly player, not Washington.

Second season players will come from ten middle tier MLB teams-
BOS, TOR, DET, CHW, OAK, FLO, STL, COL, LAD, and LAA again.
Owners will also keep four players from their first season roster.

Third season players will come from ten top tier teams-
TB, NYY, MIN, TEX, PHI, ATL, CIN, SF, SD, and BOS again.
Owners will keep four players from 2nd season, keepers may be any combo of 1st season keepers and/or 2nd season players.

[b:6a301e9df9]-Draft will be either SOM live draft, chat draft (maybe using diamondope) or autodraft, tbd by vote.[/b:6a301e9df9]
-If autodraft is used then cap will be 200M with 10% drop penalty
-Unleashed cards will not be used unless a majority of owners wish to use them, if used will be limited to one per team.
-Trades will be allowed, keepers will retain keeper status if traded
-DH will be used
-Stadiums will be drafted as well

Keep in mind that a SOM live draft would be a bit more complicated and time consuming than the usual "blitz drafts", the two minutes/pick option will be used.

I plan on waiting three-four weeks before actually drafting/playing regardless of how slow/fast league fills, just want to go ahead and get the ball rolling now. I'm open to suggestions for changes to settings.

Gotta have me some unleashed! Also, like $200m, 10% format for live draft as well. Will need it for these crappy teams! Why not just draft framchises and make a lot of trades :)

ducapa- I'm already in a league (pelzer) that drafted franchises (no trades though) so wanted to try something similar but different. After finishing this we might try that or some other variation on the theme.

evanthomas- I can't think of any bad PTL references (though the P has a lot of possibilities I suppose :? ), maybe pm me if you know of a reason to go with something different. Just wanted to honor Pope for saving someones's life, (a really small honor, I know, but it's something).

We could use the diamonddope draft if everybody is ok with that, I have used the dd site for research but have not used it for drafting, how does it work?

I think naming the league after Pope after his efforts last week is admirable. Not everybody would step up like he did. My reference to PTL is the old People That Love religious broadcasting network. Not sure that is the acronym you were looking for.

My experience is that live drafts on the league chat are very lengthy and often confusing as it relies on someone to keep track of the picks. Generally you wind up with numerous repicks and delays. By using one of the draft sites like diamond dope you have the site keeping time and availability and it moves more smoothly.

Oh yeah, forgot about the PTL, wish I could say I'm not old enough to remember that but I am. Why not just go with the LPL, Leonard Pope League.

re draft- I actually meant the SOM live draft (i.e. get it over with in one night), not a chat draft. I just finished a keeper draft not long ago using chat, and while fun it can be time consuming and frustrating. I think the SOM live draft site would be ok for our drafts, it would take longer because you would have to scroll more to find players on eligible teams but we would go with a 2 minute time limit. I did a mock draft just drafting lower tier players, it worked ok, though of course I was the only one picking just low tier players- would be a bit harder if everyone was taking them. How do dd drafts work?

If we did go with the chat thread draft would definitely use some kind of "appointed time" system rather than just a time limit.

I can't do a live draft with 2 min. time limits with work and all. Live drafts I've done are usually 2-4 hours and timer is only on during weekday days.
