Trade etiquette

Postby elpasopesos » Tue Jun 28, 2011 8:28 pm

I think there should be a statement about trade etiquette. Too many managers don't read, or don't respond to trade offers. Maybe they don't know how to use the DECLINE button. In any case managers should send a mail message after they have read the offer saying well I need a few to think, or I will give you an answer tomorrow. Once they decide to accept or decline, fine; they should just hit the button.

I don't mind a non-written response, as long as Accept or Decline is hit...but if someone reads the Trade offer, and then takes no action or response, THAT drives me crazy and is very poor etiquette, IMO.

That being said, I don't see enough prevalence of it to say it's a problem though.

There are some drama queens around here that feel if an offer is "insulting", they won't bother to respond.

I say, get over it, click "decline" and move on.

I agree, the only time I get into it is when I get what I feel is an insulting offer and when I reject it I get a "I'm smarter than you and this really helps your team and you'll basically regret it" message from them. There's only 2 people I know who do that, but it makes me never want to trade with them!

trade etiquete

It is quite frustrating when you see that the owner of the team you sent a trade offer to has already read your offer but does not reply. It is reasonable to take some time to think about it but that should not take long. Some managers simply read the offer and ignore it without reply. I think it is rude.

I always try to be polite. If I can't make up my mind on a trade in 24 hours I mail message the proposing owner saying I just need a little more time say another 24 hours. I always respectfully consider every trade offer; it may look fair from his point of view. I did have people who tried to take advantage of me when I was a younger player. But I always respond. according to the rules of etiquette

I agree, I HATE when a message is read but not responded to. Just decline or send message back saying "thinking about it".

I also agree with geekor, don't try and explain to me why the deal is good.

A couple amusing real-life SOM experiences that happened to me over the past few years:

Got propoosed a trade...for whatever reason hadn't even had a chance to read it until a couple days later...but before I could, the other manager sent me a PM saying "do you think you're too cool to read trade requests? if you don't want to trade, go play solo against the computer"!!!
And to repeat, I hadn't even read the trade yet! This same manager did the same exact thing to be about a year later on another trade!

Another time I proposed a trade to someone...and apparently he didn't think it was an even trade, cause I got back a scathing email that he remembers me from years ago in some theme leagues (which I hadn't even been involved during the period he mentioned) always offering lopsided trades to people....and to not bother insulting him.

Fortunately, I think both those managers have stopped playing (knock on wood)
