Too Week Defense?

Too Week Defense?

New team starting out in Great American Ball Park....

Should I cut back on my starters and add to my bull pen? Also, is my defense a little too week?

Any suggestions would be helpful....

Fielding at 2b-ss-3b will hurt you, as will poor hitting at c and cf. Likewise, Dunn and Howard will not enjoy that ballpark so much and will strike out a lot.

You're right that the bullpen is probably the weakest point, though -- having only 2 relievers could kill you in tight games. You might want to trade in 1 of your aces for a lesser starter and a couple of better R2s.

Defense definately too weak IMO. I don't think you'll be able to outscore the havoc your IF will create. I would maybe try to upgrade "D" at 2B and 3B, as they are not so good offensively that you want to carry the bad "D".

I would dump Soria or Axford, add Brian Fuentes, dump Gutierrez and Kendrick for Colby Rasmus and Espinoza at second. If you are looking for an advantage, it's your park and ability to score along with your strong starting pitching. If your team hits, you will win, so make sure they can hit and your park favors home runs. You will lose every now and then from defense but you will lose consistently if you don't hit. My 2cents.

Strikeouts are a good thing :P Would you prefer gba's on their cards instead?

Strikeouts ARE a good thing for an offense in SOM. A definitive difference between real life and SOM baseball...

Defenses are usually top-notch in nature; I'd prefer a strikeout from one of these heavyweights than a double-play groundout.

Now, the fact that these guys need a homer-friendly park in order to meet your expectations - that's a different story.
