War On Terror

Postby nevdully's » Mon Jul 04, 2011 11:56 pm

I'm wondering how many *men* and I use that term loosely, play this "game" as if they're fighting the war on terror?

What I'm asking is how many *men* cheat at this game?...Ok not cheat just sorta cheat? Ya know like use one set of starters for an opening night matchup and then swap them out before the games run to their intended seasonal starters? Now I'm sure only one or two *men* will admit this, which of course won't give me a very accurate answer. So for all those *men* who aren't really Men can you just log in as some pussyman chooch unsportsmanlike douchebag of a child that you really are...I'm just saying....I only ask in hopes of getting enough to fill a league or 3... Seriously

Sure I'm fine...there's been a loophole Bernie's talked about closing for awhile now (sigh) which allows you to make opening night roster moves *after 10:00 pm* when lineups and matchups are set, but, before the games actually run (about 2 hours later) *without the drop/add penalty*....Now I'm sure we've all gotten wrapped up in last minute moves and just get a lineup set under the deadline but continue to tweak it a little more, no poor sportsmanship intended....But some *men* here take this penalty free window and exploit it to the tune of using a bunch of guys to play only that night and then swap em out for whoever they actually planned to go through the season with....Like someone might plan to go with 3 right hand starters, BUT since opening night is in a lefty park he uses 3 lefties for the 10:00 deadline and then swaps them out after 10 for his righties...Ya know that gray area douchebag stuff...I mean gamesmanship stuff...lmao..

Oh. Guess I knew you could do that, but that's way too much time/effort/manipulation for me. Once the season starts, my teams run pretty much on auto pilot, unless I have an injury to deal with, or a trade offer, etc. Other than an occasional lineup tweak or an add/drop, I'm a pretty hands off mgr. :) But yeah, I can understand how that would aggravate you, if someone does that kind of thing to the max. I just can't obsess about the game to that degree, with a FT job, a wife, two cats, my grown son and daughter, and the two grand kids that live with me. Heck, I went to check on the status of a draft Mon. evening, and ended up reading Lady and the Tramp, instead. :)

First, I didn't know you could do that.

Second, I'm not sure what difference it would make, since I generally use somewhat different lineups against righties and lefties, and the computer will use the appropriate one no matter who's pitching.

Third, only in a very few leagues do I have more than five pitchers who are capable of starting. Kind of hard to pull off that kind of gamesmanship when the computer insists on starters having the proper number of rest days.

Fourth, is there something I'm missing here?

I think this sorta thing doesnt work at the 200 level or the live level, and IM guessing even 140 is a challenge to do it, because there simply arent starters for you to swap with that you would rather have on your roster that someone else hasnt picked up already.

However, at the lower cap levels (100,80) it certainly could be done pretty easily, because there are plenty of unused good starters to switch off on-
and Ive seen a few times where someone will wait until after 10 to drop a player that they know someone else wants him-
Weather thats good playing or not, I dont really know.

Bontomn thats the point...you probably can't have all these guys on your roster *at once* [b:cdc0e18133]so you use one set of guys just before 10...Then lineups are set at 10:00 and 10:01 you swap em out for other guys free of penalty.[/b:cdc0e18133]..It actually works much better in lower cap league where so much talent is available...and can work well in all leagues with pitching because there's tons of pitching available.

The *men* that engage in this practice can probably better explain their art of manipulation better than I. One *man* I once respected did this last night. Maybe he could step up and explain how in his best Bill Belichick rationalization mode this type of thing is perfectly acceptable...But then Belichick would pimp out his daughter for better field position.

The danger here, of course, is you may see this happen more often simply because now people know this bothers you. I guess I missed my chance to ruin opening night in the Gary Carter league!

Good luck!
