War On Terror

[quote:ef479f93a2]The player you dropped starts for you tonight even though you have dropped him for a pitcher who starts tommorow and then you do the same thing the next day thereby beating a better pitching staff by racking up more wins and strikeouts. [/quote:ef479f93a2]
Easy solution to that. when he drops someone good next time pick the guy up. Now he cannot use him come next start. Much to do about nothing there. Major league teams do that all the time. Teams when they think one of their rotation might miss a start often have a guy fly in from AAA just in case he is needed. If he is they activate him next afternoon and he starts that night. Nobody ever complains or accuses anyone of any wrongdoing. But let something like that happen in fantasy or here and it's the end of the world. I play a lot of yahoo fantasy. And I will trade a staff where the person has to resort to finding daily useful pitchers for the better staff that lets you just relax any time.

Bottom line as long as it is within the rules and everyone knows the strategy is possible then it is fair. To me it is no different than taking a reliever who pitched 100 innings and stretching him out for 300+. I am looking at you Babe Adams users. It is no different than taking a catcher with 600 PA and only 1 injury chance and catching him 162 games. It is no different than only carrying 2 catchers because you know when one gets injured the other is bulletproof.

This does not require a coding change. It just requires a paragraph in the rules so everyone knows the cutoff for making transactions without a cap penalty is when the first game is played. Problem solved, everyone knows how it works and what you do with it is up to the individual just like setting a pitcher for multiple roles is.

[quote:91bb58070c="modmark47"]Macnole - we actually had to put our beloved Sheba (shepherd/beagle mix) down a couple of weeks ago. She was 13, and it was probably past time. Very hard for all of us, and my grandson still cries about her being gone.[/quote:91bb58070c]

Sorry Modmark. There is some awkward timing. I will be a mess when our Golden Retriever moves on so I completely understand.

I agree with Valen and Charlie on this. Just like those who may not beta test dont necessarily have some of the inside scoop on how the engine or add-ons work.
The premise of the whole game is shaping it to one's advantage...not sure what the big deal is, there is a cost to operating that way.

After all, when's the right time then to stop making changes for the "benefit" of stabilizing your roster for others? That is, everyone is playing by the same rules--it's not an unfair advantage--it's a tactic.

Now there's a couple of "men" that should sign up.

It's a flaw in the system ...that many don't know about.... certainly against the spirit of the rules...but hey why not use this "tactic"...

Introducing... right outta the school of "It ain't cheatin if you don't get caught".

way too much effort to do this which may reflect my diismal winning percentage but I have enough trouble just remembering to set lineups and pitching rotations rather than worry about manipulating a system I barely understand to begin with. Kind of why I stick to theme leagues anyway

Nev,

Obviously disagree. What about the losers who would pay others to have player ratings constructed based on rosters? Cheating requires two things:

- clandestine activity
- advantage gained by breaking rules

Neither of these is true. Moves are made in the open. There is nothing preventing it, just like people who switch out injured players for a different year.

Not saying I agree with doing it--as there is a cost and is hardly a winning tactic...but it's not nefarious.

No more nefarious than using inside info on the game engine...in fact less so because it's out in the open.

Heck, I'm on european time so it's unfair that the drafts/waivers are running when I'm asleep or whatever.

Where you stand depends on where you sit I guess. Scrub that I am...
Compared to all the other priorities, this really is whale crap on the bottom of the ocean. This is one reason why Bernie can not move forward--we bombard...in my opinion

I think the reason guys can get away with the "It's ethical because I can do it" approach is that this is on-line. If these were face-to-face games guys would be more bound to consistent ground rules. Different rules can be agreed upon by different groups, but everybody in the group then plays by the same rules.

Most of the time I'm trying to play "live and let live" here. But sometimes, like what happened for Nev this week, I just get fed up with some of the bs that guys try to pull. Gets a bit frustrating.

BTW Nev, D,C & H is one of the finest law firms in Harvard Square. Upstanding foolishness for several generations I believe.

I'm still not sure I'm explaining this properly because there is no cost...and there should be....but there isn't.

What cost are you talking about?
