Would have posted there, but 1986 = the tree falling in the forest with no one around to here it.

Youmans card is usually a super value. Lots of people can get scared off by the +9 hold (and a lot of walks on his card) considering all the speedsters in the '86 set, but I've seen him put up even better numbers than on your team.

You also got some pretty decent mileage out of some seldom used guys (Lee Lacy and Bo Diaz among others). One interesting thing is you only stole 57 team bases with an '86 astrodome team and won with it. I think I've got more than 57 out of Steve Sax alone!

'86 is my favorite single year set. I too wish more people played it.

[b:15c49bac2e]Reagarding the stealing[/b:15c49bac2e], this is a good illustration of my post a few weeks ago as far as using the more conservative settings for base running and stealing. I used "very conservative" for stealing with just Daniels, who attempted only 8 SB's, being set to "steal more". Despite lacking a big SB total, I still finished 4th in offense, which I think is pretty good for the Astrodome. I also managed to be successful on 85%(the best) of my 67 steal attempts in a league where only one other team barely did better than 80% and the rest of the teams were under 75%. With ten teams having a steal success rate under 75%(six under 70%), my contention is a good number of teams in this league are hurting their offense by being too aggressive in their steal settings and if the corresponding base running settings are as aggressive as their steal setting counterparts, they will also be hurting themselves on the base paths even more than is evident with their steal %'s because they are probably also running into too many outs on the bases.
[b:15c49bac2e]Regarding Youmanns[/b:15c49bac2e], I love him in a pitchers park where most of his walks will not come back to haunt you in the form of three run HR's.

The other side of the stealing coin. Here is an '86 team with 551 stolen bases with the #1 offense at Royals stadium with only 131 HRs. .74% success rate at stealing bases with stealing set at "very aggressive" 100% of the time. This is the team where Steve Sax stole 77:

Here's another '86 team at Fenway with 516 stolen bases (without a DH) also set to "very aggressive" with a 77% success rate. It was second in team offense with a whopping 123 HRs. Kal Daniels on this team was 23 for 44 in stealing and did bring the average down a bit.

These teams won 94 and 90 games respectively, so you can be very successful running wild as well. On of the great things about this game is that there are so many ways to win.

Based on what you guys are saying, and my existing desire to try '86 (and still having three credits) I'm making a team. How is no-DH in '86? Hmmmm . . . I'm an NL fan but I've also fared poorly in my only no-DH season.

Youman on my team. His record wasn't great, but the team couldn't hit. Nice IP / H ratio.

Of course you can. I have also posted similar steal stats and won. The point I tried to make going back a couple of weeks is in regard to base running. My point is that "aggressive" or "very aggressive" stealing is not a good setting for most teams. I use the example of the success rates in my league because I thought they sucked. My end point is really that it is at a minimum possible that IMO just as the "aggressive" steal settings are not good for most teams, the "aggressive" base running settings are too aggressive for your average team and that most teams should be at normal or less in both these settings.
