War On Terror

[quote:dc7f90b1dc]Actually I not only do not think this is against the rules after some thought have decided anyone reading the rules should easily understand it. The rules clearly state that the cap penalty kicks in after game 1 is played.[/quote:dc7f90b1dc]

Really? If it's a rule that only a few people are aware of, does this make it a rule or a loophole? IMHO, this is a loophole that should probably be closed.

I think this also points up the larger issue of the general vagaries under which we play. When is deadline to add/drop? Are ballpark doubles turned on? Pitcher clutch? We would all benefit from having the entirety of our rules spelled out and posted as a permanent link to the template of each league. If that's customizable per league, so much the better!

I'd also point out that we're busy talking about this when we should be giving TSN a swift kick in the butt about marketing and pricing.

This argument is extremely weak. If you pay any attention at all you will see how this works with your first league even if you could not understand it from the written rules. If you are not aware that cap penalties do not happen until after games start being played you have either NEVER played a single team or on eof those people who still wonder if the sun will rise from the same direction again today. Perhaps instead of code and rule changes we just need some advice from Foghorn Leghorn, pay attention.

This is a baffling response.

So I'm supposed to be paying attention to the cap hits other teams take? Because I can tell you, I don't. I would also be willing to bet that the majority of casual Strat players are unaware of this loophole and simply assume that if someone pulls this move, they [b:ec509fba0a]are[/b:ec509fba0a] taking a hit.

Either the loophole should be closed or the fundamental rule should be clarified so that it's no longer a loophole. That seems like pretty sound argumentative footing to me.

To me these things need to be absolutely clear:

i.e.
"roster moves can be made on opening night up til game time with no cap hit; but games for opening night will reflect the players you have at the 10PM cutoff"

If I read that Id have learned it a lot quicker; anyone coming to play; veteran or beginner shouldn't have to figure this out by trial and error.

That way if someone uses the rule to their advantage, at least one can point to that being the actual rule, and not a programming issue.

Oh please I noticed it the first league I was in. Why wouldn't you be paying attention to your opponents? If for no other reason to see if they drop someone you would want. And even if you paid no attention to other teams you would clearly see first time you made a late change there was no cap hit.

But all that is irrelevant. There is no advantage to be gained. I have played a lot of teams going all the way back to the very first 2001 game. Not one time have I seen this "strategy" used. If it is such a serious problem then please explain why nobody has been able to post even one example of this "strategy" being used and offer proof of the effectiveness thereof. Come on, you say it is a pervasive problem that needs fixing right away, produce some examples.

I am 100% behind this verbiage being added to official rules. It would take all of 1 minute to paste in to the relevant web page and maybe another couple minutes to move updated file to server. And boom this is a complete non-issue.

Forget finding examples I will take it a step further beyone that challenge.

I will accept the challenge of a league built around this "huge loophole" with this twist. I will volunteer to be the victim. Find 3 users of this strategy to be in my division so I am certain to face someone on opening night that will be using this "strategy". Surely if there is anything to this and any of the dommsdayers are right I will be at a huge disadvantage. I am so confident it is useless for gaining any advantage I will gladly submit myself to be the victim.

Here is the framework for the league.
$200 mil cap with DH, 5/10/20 penalty structure. You must wait until after the roster deadline when lineups get set and then swap at least 5 transactions. Each transaction must involve dropping at least one card priced at 8 mil or more.

So there it is. All you people who are so worried someone could use this to an advantage step up and volunteer to be one of the 3. Show me you could use it to your advantage. We can call it the James Bond league because you are licensed to abuse.

Actually, to be totally honest the only thing about all this that bothers me...

The boards have become so slow that this irrelevant issue is actually the most interesting thing going.
