Understood but do not think it needs to be anonymous since nobody will be posting in this to make fun of someone. In fact the thread specifically says post trades that you think are good and it should go without saying the managers are getting a compliment. Anonymous is only needed when trying to hide something.

must disagree on this.

First, anonymity doesnt automatically mean there is something to hide.

second, even if I am one of those 'good' trades and someone is attempting to compliment me, that doesn't mean that I want everyone to know its me or to shower me with praises. (although if you do want to shower me with praises, I humbly accept :roll: )

In my limited experience, balanced trades have been much more likely when I've had some discussion with the other manager about a potential deal, before any offers are made. "I'm interested in Petey. What do you want for him?". The discussion prior to trade offers helps eliminate misunderstandings. I suspect most all of the "bad" trades posted on the message boards have been out-of-the-blue offers. When I've sent OTBs that are immediately rejected, I'm usually giving myself the dolt-slap afterward because I'll realize I didn't look at the other manager's ballpark or some such silliness. When I discuss the potential deal beforehand, my forehead is happier.

I also think that salary cap factors into this discussion. Unbalanced trades can happen anywhere, but it's easier to recover from an unbalanced trade at $100M or less, than at $200M. Petey for Yaz/Max can work at $80M, but is more of a stretch at $200M. Another aspect of context for evaluating trades.

And I did it to move Boggs (on my bench as well) For Lajoie....I'm in righty park and Grich is my 2b now (a small yuk) and Boggs will be going to a lefty park for an owner that has Cecil Travis as his 3b.

unesid provides an excellent example of a trade that matches needs of 2 teams even though the money was quite different.

Speaking of the money difference there it is my opinion that pitching is now underpriced. Consequently whenever I offer hitting for pitching I tend to add a little to the pitcher salaries and then use that as starting point for selecting hitters to offer.

Relievers I find present an especially difficult proposition. Some managers place such a premium on good RP only guys that it is impossible to offer enough. Yet when you have an excess of good relievers it can be tough to get similar value to what is usually demanded when you are in need.

With any trade it is always about context. For me personally, it is much better to approach someone about a player first to find out if there is any interest in a trade. Just my .2 cents.

I would agree about approaching someone first to inquire about interest. Only problem is I have had enough instances where I was making inquiries and someone else was making concrete offers. By the time I found out someone was willing to trade someone they had already made a trade.
