Hanley Rameriz or Jose Reyes

Postby Pirhala » Wed Aug 03, 2011 7:23 am

Who would you prefer?

Both are about equal on SB with a slight edge to HanRam, but Reyes has a 17 base running compared to a 15 For Hanram.

HanRam has a slightly lower BA against lefties, and they are about equal in OBP, but HamRam hits more HR.

HanRam smokes Reyes against righties having a much higher BA, OBP and HR.

Offensively I would say that it is a no brainer to go with HanRam, but it is the defence that scares me. 2e19 compared to a 3e19.

Is the offence good enough to make up for the lack of defence?

I have played HRam many times at SS this year...but only with 2 1's up the middle(2B/CF) to back him up

The running factor is very minor.....not enough plays determined by those 2 extra chances to play JR over HRam...IMO

It partially depends on the stadium. In a HR friendly park, take Ramirez. All other parks, take Reyes. Reyes is also nearly $2M cheaper, so the comparison is a bit unfair.

I platoon a 1 and a 2 in center (Bourn and BJ Upton) and a 1 at 2b (Pedroia).

I would agree that the run factor is not an issue. My main concern is the defence. To be honest I just need an opinion if the difference in offence makes up for the difference in defence. According to Diamonddope.com their numbers are as follows:

Against Lefties:

Reyes: 36.95 Hits, .15HR, 2BB, .352BA, .370OBP, 5.67RC/27
HanRa: 31.25 Hits, 5.4HR, 6BB, .316BA, .373OBP, 7.62RC/27

Against Righties:

Reyes: 30.2 Hits, 1.5HR, 0BB, .282BA, .289OBP, 4.95RC/27
HanRa: 34.4 Hits, 3.9HR, 13BB, .374BA, .467OBP, 11.31RC/27

The trade offered is HanRam and Brian Sanches for Reyes and Koji Uehara. From what I can see Sanches and Uehera are virtually even with Koji giving up more hits and Sanches more walks.

I am probably going to take this deal, just want some opinions on the matter.

I am playing in Fenway, and the other teams in my division are playing in Dodgers Stadium, PNC Park and Miller Park.

I can afford Ramirez's salary so that is not relevant.

Not an ideal divisional/home park set up for HanRam

I agree. With that set-up, I'd definitely go with Jose Reyes over Hanley Ramirez.

I think Hanley Ramirez is much better than Reyes, especially when you have a good D 2B beside him. I also got Iztursis for .5 2e10 to replace him in late innings when ahead. That increases his value even more. ALso Ramirez is ione of the best lead off men vs right in the set.

Defense is much less a factor with the newer Strat cards. Lots of pitchers induce the DP, so having a 3 at SS isn't quite so bad, especially if you get a huge offensive return, like Hanley will give you. That said, I think it depends o the strength of your lineup. If you don't need extra power, get Reyes and stick him at the bottom of the order. If you're depending on the position to give you something from the top 3 (or even middle of order) Hanley's your man.
