i know gbA's on the 7 roll are killers. how many gba's do you normally shy away from as your number 2/3 hitters? or would 3 not matter? for example, i love frisch. but he has 4 gbas, 4 thru 7, on both sides of his card. like to lead off with my 20-16 base stealer. thoughts?

I like my #2 hitters to max at 5 or 6 gbA's, #3 at 10, but there are exceptions. But I won't use that 1962 Mays card anymore, for instance, because of the multitude of gbA's. I've become gbA-phobic, expecially in a small-ball stadium.

Scorehouse, actually I think the 7.45 card has 20/20 and the 7.45 has 19/20.

The 7.45 card RH side 2d6 rolls equate to:
4: 3 gbA
5: 4 gbA
6: 5 gbA
7: 6 gbA
11: 2 gbA

or 20 total out of 108 chances. 20 is the typical benchmark, especially for old-timers that didn't have good stats on double plays. So I like to look for anything less than 20, but for a number two hitter, I really want it minimized, and would like to see more gbC, gb()+, and fly()? in terms of more productive outs. gbB isnt exactly a bargain either.

Ive never really worried about it on a #3 hitter unless it was over 20 chances, because usually it's your best all around hitter anyway.

The default value for all players is 20 gbA. There are far more with more than 20 than there are with less than 20, although there are a few zeros.

Since 1/3 of a guy's AB's (more or less) come with 2 out, and since close to half the rest come with nobody on base, and since some of the rest occur with 1st base vacant, I think that gbA's are a consideration but not a reason to develop a phobia.

There are a lot of phobias on this site.

gbA phobia
ballpark HR on pitcher's card phobia
"W" batter rating phobia
+ arm C phobia
defense rating >1 phobia

If you developed enough of them, there would only be 25 guys left in the card set you could use. This is a game of tradeoffs. Generally, you want to avoid 3-rated fielders, but there are a fair number of them that can out-hit their stone gloves. Generally, you want to avoid catchers that don't have big arms, but Piazza is very popular. And so on.
