Hack Wilson in LF?

[quote:15d9ba2242="El-Saltman"]Let me see if I understand this correctly...Im slow so need lots of help.

If Hal lets me do something, its automatically okay? [size=24:15d9ba2242]YES!!!!![/size:15d9ba2242]
Because there have been times when Hal didnt/couldn't enforce the 3 pure reliever rule just as one example- or the 2 Catcher rule for a second.

Also, to be honest, although Pets comment might be viewed as a somewhat negative response, I think the reply to it was much worse-
Im saying that because there was no personal shot taken in his response.

Okay, you can shoot me too now.[/quote:15d9ba2242][b:15d9ba2242][/b:15d9ba2242]

[quote:b9ee6ba7c8]And it was you that said if something is wrong it is wrong, yet you use 2 catchers all the time don't you?[/quote:b9ee6ba7c8]

Please stop assuming Charlie that's not who I know you to be. I often use 3 C's

But maybe that's not your point...So yes I sometimes use 2 c's and often "hide" my 5th starter...and never have a back up for Mays etc.

How bout knowing that * sps will never miss a start...Is only drafting four the same as Hack in LF? Are we screwing newbies because they might not know this?

NEV, I really don't see where any of this is actually wrong, nor do I really think what you are doing or anyone is doing is wrong. Truly when Petrosian was trying to figure out how to get BABE to relive and spot start, I started a team with BABE strictly as a reliever, just to see how valuable he could be in that role, as I do not really think it right to try and get 360, but it does not bother me when someone does until they complain about other perceived injustices, if you get my drift. For a very long time I used to keep 3 catchers anyway until strat forced us to carry an additional pitcher but that was only my own stubbornness.

The debate isn't about should Hack be allowed to play lf. In the board game he can and would be a 3 there as well as CF, if I recall. The issue is that ATG's rules don't allow it. And the advantage to Hack playing in LF is based on the same logic as not putting Mays there if he and Hack are in the same outfield. A three is just less of a liability in lf than in CF. That also means that Wilson's functional value as a lf would be more than what he is priced at as a CF. There is also the matter of the of arm as well as HAL has many more balls hit to CF than to LF (cf being the default on extra base hits with splits i.e. 1-5 Double 1-12 triple 13-20).

Salt: My initial post was deliberately heavy handed as I wanted to convey, with no ambiguity, precisely what I thought of the Hack in lf scam as well as how I would respond he Hack was a regular lf in a league I was in.

Nev knowing about the four starting pitchers isn't about screwing newbies, unless that is one's conscious intent.

I thought I read we were using the advanced rules that allocate the splits around the outfield arbitrarily instead of defaulting to CF to promote realism?

[quote:8391a39381="Petrosian"]Or, you could just play by the rules in force at TSN. I'd lodge an official protest if a team tried this in a league I was in and demand that the situation be rectified immediately to comply with the rules used by TSN. If the situation were not rectified, I would request that TSN take over the team. And I am quite confident that TSN would do exactly that.[/quote:8391a39381]

Please reprint the rule it would violate.

Really?? Okay then:

[quote:7a711302d3]- Can I start a player at a position not listed on his card?

No. If there is no healthy player on your roster eligible to play that position, the computer manager will determine the best player to fill in there. Such a player fielding out of position will generally have a severe defensive penalty.
[/quote:7a711302d3]
I think that the no is abundantly clear. The rest of it is about what happens when there is no healthy player eligible to play that position.

This is in the FAQ's in the Help menu.

It says [b:4b67461369]you[/b:4b67461369] can't put him there. It then explains what happens if there is noone available to play the spot. There is no requirement that you have someone available to play the position. There is no requirement that you have a player rated to play LF on your roster.
