This was in the middle of their biggest losing streak of the year of 6 games and put them 5 games out of first. The second game he played was a win against the same Boston RedCaps 8-2, this time to go to 13-26 and 17 games out of 1st. Charlie Eden was arguably the best player on this team batting .272 with a .284 OBP, 3 HRs, 34 RBI, 40 Runs in 359 plate appearances.
The team that went on to win the National League in 1879 was the Providence Grays with a record of 59-25 and managed by George Wright (who also played SS).
