Annoying Axe Ads

Postby paul.czarnecki » Fri Aug 19, 2011 7:45 am

Is there any way to avoid having these annoying Axe body spray ads pop up every time I load a page? If this continues, I'm not playing online Strat anymore.

I totally agree!!! It is ridiculous. I have to turn down the volume on my computers so I don't have to listen to that crap over and over again!!!!

Completely agree!!!

We all get it, we need ads or each team we buy will cost us $1000 per, but the audio ads are REALLY ANNOYING!!!

I don't think TSN has control of it though. Most of these banners are provided by a service that is subscribed to by a site owner, there are general categories and analytics that are incorporated into the ads that get displayed, but it is not controlled in most cases by the website.

As with most things, I could be wrong about this....

It would be one thing if it played once and that was it, but it plays nearly every time you navigate to a different page. Or at least give us the option to mute it.

One way is to install Adblock.

I've never had this happen. Can I suggest the use of addons for your browser? Ad Block Plus has worked well for me.

Ad blocking add-ons for firefox and anti-ad software for windows are definitely must haves for any web surfing these days.

Another trick that helps some: If you can identify the address of the adserver you can add it to your hosts file and tie it to 127.0.0.1 which is universal localhost. Then the page will look on your local pc instead of contracting the adserver. You may still get a popup window letting ou know the page cannot be found. But this usually shows up in an area of the page that is easily ignored and no sound.

TSN does have considerable control. Yes, they use an adserver but they have to build the ad in to their webpage. TSN decides for example if the ad will appear off to the side of your page content, at the bottom, or overlayed on top of what you are trying to see.

I do not have a problem with ads. But the level of obnoxiousness some websites allow is driving me away from more and more. TSN should be a little wiser about this. If everyone quits visiting your site because it is a very unpleasant experience to do so then there will be no page hits to drive that revenue up. Not to mention if your customers quit visiting your webpage likely they are also heading for the category of former customer.

Nobody ever won an award for having the most former customers. Who knows maybe it might get you in to Guiness or something but former customers bring 0 revenue and that is a formula for bankruptcy.
