Mike apparently committed suicide. Sad story.

Very sad indeed. As a youth, I wanted to be a pitcher and the first hurler I emulated and wanted to be was Mike Flanagan.

Born in New Hampshire, attended UMass-Amherst, played in the Cape Cod League, and had a very successful pro career.

1979 Cy Young award
member of 1983 World Champs
part of the last Orioles no-hitter
last Orioles pitcher to throw a pitch in Memorial Stadium
GM for eight years
member of Orioles broadcast team

One cannot imagine what caused Flanagan to take his own life. I hope for all the comfort, solace, and love that Flanagan's wife and children can get through this difficult time.

Very sad news indeed. It is particularly chilling for me, as a neighbor's son just took his own life in the past few days.

We can only imagine the profound grief his family and friends are enduring at this moment; I pray for their consolation.
