Going all in on cdrom

Postby Valen » Sun Aug 28, 2011 4:18 pm

Thanks Jamesgang. That helped me find it.

The online game has the balance rating right there at the top of the card. I had to dig out one of my actual cards and see for myself it was not there on the original card. :(

Chalk this up as an online enhancement/advantage. :D

That makes me think of another cdrom/online difference.

When sorting and searching for players to draft the online game allows you to sort by balance rating. The cdrom game does not. if I remember right that was an enhancement Bernie put in.

Advantage online.

Here is a candidate for that SB record team: 1887 King Kelly

Or at least with all these positions my utility player

pos=rf-3(-2)e17 2v-2e71 c-4(0)e16(pb-20) ss-3e88 3b-4e65

stealing-AA *2-7/10 (20-3)

2-5,8-10-12/- (18-1)

it means you get a good jump rolling 2-5,8-10,12

no jump when you roll 6 or 7..pretty good odds for getting jump in other words

can't remember seeing such an extreme number for a prolific base stealer..no jump and he has only a "1" chance..

I have fun mixing the 1887,94,95,97 seasons with more contemporary years such as the 1950's and 2000's

You get the actual percentage breakdown as well for L/R balance on the card when you click on the players "hitting" tab.

Purcell with a .651 OPS and he had 96 RBI's :0

The 1 bad jump rating caught my eye too. Could not help wondering if that was a typo.

I remember the 74 season. Listened to every game on the radio. Would have been cool to have watched them on tv. Brock had run off a string of 50+ steal seasons. The team was going nowhere in 74 and almost everyone knew it except for me. What can I say, I was a fan. :D Lou got hot early and stole a bunch and there was a lot of speculation on how many he could get. He seemed to feed on that started running any time he thought he could make it.

It was great. Every time he got on base everyone knew he was running. It was only a question of which pitch. The suspense always made it much more interesting.

Mixing in other seasons in the 1800s with modern players will have to wait. I got the 1887 season because of the number of 100 base stealers. But will likely hold off on the rest until last. That is just in case Strato decides to produce any of those seasons in deluxe format. Want to avoid buying them twice.

Any updates on your CD-ROM experience?

I'm thinking of making an upgrade to the newest game. I've got a bunch of old season disks (yes floppys) and recall an offer from Strat to send them in to be exchanged into CDs. Anyone know if that is still a valid option?

They are no longer honoring your disk purchases at all.
They now require you purchase again and pay full price.

I considered that as effectively stealing back the product I purchased previously as that is down the drain. Therefore instead of giving them additional business which would have been well over a thousand to complete my collection to just cut my losses and fold that tent.

I may at some time get back in to simming on my computer but it will be with a more honorable company with better ethics.
