That means if you draft the hitter card you have ownership of all the hitter versions but NOT the pitcher. You would still have to draft Ruth the pitcher separately. And they would count as 2 roster spots, 1 pitcher and 1 hitter. You could not switch at will between the two.

PS- I do appreciate the efforts, and am happy to have new cards, but was kind of hoping to see 50-100 on the first go round; but Im a greedy pig and a general curmudgeon so just ignore me.

It would be foolish to draft Ruth as a pitcher if you intend to use him as a hitter. He's popular enough that if you don't rank him high enough you run the risk of getting someone like Higuera or Fidrych as a replacement player instead of Williams or Aaron.

Wow, I guess I really wasn't clear. I have thought about this exact situation, but haven't laid out the official explanation yet. I'll do that soon, but know that it will obviously NOT be the case where you can pitch Ruth '16 one day, then switch to Ruth '27 in your lineup the next day, because even if you could imagine a fair salary for that situation, it just doesn't work, technically, with our system.

Presumably, the Ruth pitching card will be around $8.5 - 9 million. That's a pretty steep price ticket to put on your draft card when, as Paige points out, you might end up with Higuera rather than Williams as your substitute.

An analogous situation is Joe Wood - I don't think you can own both the hitter card and the pitcher card.

Rogan was a really good hitter, as this card will attest. He won 151 games in his career that lasted from 1920-1928 (playing seasons that rarely got to 100 games, although most of the games were on weekends), and in his spare time hit .409 in 1923 to win a batting title.

I've drafted Joe Wood as hitter and upgraded (before the season started) to him as a pitcher. Plan to do same with Ruth. There won't be two Ruth's in any league so if you have one you can certainly drop him and grab the other(s). But trying to have him pitch one day and play the field the next would only work in live drafts and even there he has to only do one thing per series.

again I am talking about live draft only...where $$$ is not an issue...Pitch Babe every other series...and bat him every other series...just saying

I've never played a live league, but unless Babe's pitching card puts him in the Maddux range (and it doesn't look like it does), aren't you better off batting Babe every series and using another comparable pitcher, of which there will surely be one available?
