ATG new card teasers (new for Wed. 9/14)

Still of the opinion good pitching stops good hitting. Does not matter if Ruth the hitter remembers what Ruth the pitcher throws if Ruth the pitcher hits his spots and executes his pitches.

[quote:39c62ce353]Brock stole 118 bases but was nabbed 33 times, according to baseball reference. If that's the case, his success rate would be under 80% [/quote:39c62ce353]
78% to be accurate
That is because he was not just stealing against the weak armed catchers or against the poor holding pitchers. He was running against everyone. A player who is being very selective and only running against the ideal situations might get 70% success rate with an 18 rating. But when you run against everyone, including the Bench types deadly to a running game you need the higher rating to pull the 80%.

Point is why was the card changed and the rating reduced. I would prefer to play with the cards as they were, not a revisionist version. That 20-16 rating was one of the reasons I wanted Brock.

[quote:8da09dd435="Petrosian"]Wish we had an option to have leagues with the ballpark effects turned off. They seem to exert a disproportionate influence on the game.[/quote:8da09dd435]

I love this idea. It would be a totally different game. Maybe we could do a test run on this.

We did a theme league where everyone had to use Turner Field (8-8-8-8). You could do the same.

Ok, I'm totally willing to forego the change and keep Babe Ruth et al. as one entity, if you're sure you're cool with it.

The potential problem would mostly take care of itself in regular/lower caps, but I was more concerned with protecting the integrity of the higher caps, which I know many of you veterans play. I do understand that as a 4-day starter, Ruth would be pitching in most 3-game series, which cuts down on the series one would switch to his hitter card for, but still, he does save a roster spot, and his salary would not be raised to reflect this special exploit.

But hey, if you guys are SURE you're ok with it, then so am I. It's way less work for me to leave it as is. Just confirm that you are, and don't complain about it later. ;)

I play the CD rom game with the ballpark, weather, clutch and injuries all turned off. Injuries may be more realistic but they aren't a "fun" part of the game.

Hi Valen,

What specific evidence do you have that his card was originally *3-7/- (20-16)? I don't explicitly dispute your claim, but all I know is this *2-7,11/- (19-16) is what was sent to me by Strat-O-Matic.

For what it's worth, rburgh is correct - the high number is directly determined by SB/CS ratio. In the current ATG VI set, there are 8 cards with steal letters of A or higher with a 20 high number, and among them, the lowest SB/CS ratio is 81.3%. Prolific base-stealers with lower ratios are always given lower high numbers and bigger lead chances.

I'm pretty sure in high cap leagues that Ruth will be solely used as a hitter. Nobody's going to want to take him out of the lineup.

P.S. I'm hoping to see more 2B/SS options, too.
