ATG new card teasers (new for Wed. 9/14)

Postby PotKettleBlack » Thu Sep 15, 2011 8:08 am

[quote:a4581c1590="modmark47"]So, Bernie showed us 27 cards. 14 hitters and 13 pitchers. Of the hitters, 7 were LH and 7 were RH. 5 of the hitters are IFs and 9 are OFs (some can play the IF also, but not their best positions). 10 SPs, of which 8 are right handed. 1 lefty RP and 2 righty RPs. I wonder if there will be others added that he didn't show, in this first batch? :)[/quote:a4581c1590]

unclear on the concept of a teaser...

[quote:325969774b="joekendall"]I talked with Bernie once, and he is a nice guy. He really cares about his work and the TSN SOM community. Sometimes the community really berates Bernie, when we should step back and consider what we would be able to accomplish if we had to go through all of the "red tape", multiple layers of management inside and outside TSN, and such limited resources.[/quote:325969774b]

Is it Thursday?

Just curious, does anyone know if Bernie is a west or east coaster?

Reason I ask if he is a west coaster at this point he is not even up yet.

J/K I think you are right but to a degree-
because Bernie is the only real person we have contact with, he takes all of the negative stuff as well as the positive stuff that comes with it- and this is not necessarily a value judgement on how well he is doing.

If TSN had another representative on here, Im quite sure most of us would complain to him/her about how we feel when we think the company is not doing what it should, and leave the specific game engine comments for Bernie- many of which are good, as you can see how excited everyone gets when new things come out.

[quote:a17985e573]Ok, this is how we're going to be handling the special case where a player (e.g. Babe Ruth) has one or more hitter cards (1921, 1927) and one or more pitcher cards (1916, to be added on Thursday) in the same player set.

The player's hitter card(s) and pitcher card(s) will be available as 2 separate players, meaning Babe Ruth (or Double Duty Radcliffe, etc.) may exist in a league as a hitter (1927), and separately as a pitcher (1916), even on the same team.

So if you want to use The Babe's 1927 hitter card and 1916 pitcher card on your team at the same time, you can, but you'll have to pay for him twice (though Ruth the Pitcher would bat for himself as a generic 8NL-hitting pitcher in a non-DH league). If his two incarnations are on separate teams, then they can face each other. [/quote:a17985e573]

[b:a17985e573]I dont like this. I have no problem having Ruth the pitcher and Ruth the hitter on the same team if the manager is willing to pay for it, but I dont like Ruth facing Ruth. I still want a little "realism", and that aint it[/b:a17985e573].

Good morning folks...

Here's how I'm estimating today will go: the cards will be made available to new leagues later this morning (ET), to get them to you as quickly as I can. Then I have a hot lunch date with my wife. I'm hoping she'll wear that new dress I saw hanging in the closet. This afternoon I'll finish the formalities, including providing you a reference list of the new cards, updating documentation about the player set, adding them to the live draft, and I'll detail exactly what the situation is with leagues in various stages regarding access to them.

[b:e260a9cb59]Valen[/b:e260a9cb59], I am going to give YOU (and whomever else has an opinion) the choice of what [b:e260a9cb59]Lou Brock's 1974 stealing numbers[/b:e260a9cb59] will be. But I want to make sure you to understand what it is you've been asking for.

While the 20 high number you've been coveting is "sexier", the *3-7/- (20-16) you want may actually [b:e260a9cb59]steal fewer bases[/b:e260a9cb59] than the *2-7,11/- (19-16) it is now. The 20 high number would get [b:e260a9cb59]fewer opportunities (8.5%) to steal[/b:e260a9cb59], though it would have a higher (5%) success rate. I don't know the precise projections - it's not as simple as "8.5% is more than 5%" - but I don't think it makes a huge difference in the long run. It comes down to you what you prefer. In my opinion, the *2-7,11/- (19-16) is more accurate and consistent with Strat-O-Matic's design, but [i:e260a9cb59]I'm leaving it up to you[/i:e260a9cb59].

Further realism would require that when Ruth the pitcher is on the mound that Ruth the hitter cannot be in the lineup.

Andycummings, Getowtamypot: I'd reconsidered it and will no longer be following that plan. Ruth et al. will be one player each as normal. I'd said so but I suppose I didn't make it that clear. Sorry for the confusion.
