The 1989 Giants challenge you to a theme

Postby childsmwc » Sat Sep 17, 2011 1:48 am

Ok with a little creativity I was able to recreate the 1989 Giants line up:

C- T. Kennedy 1984
1B- W. Clark 1989
2B- R. Thompson 1989
3B- M. Williams 1990
SS- J. Uribe 1986
LF- K. Mitchell 1989
CF- B. Butler 1993
RF- (No Candyman in the set, so using 1986 C. Davis as a stand in)

On the pitching side its not quite as clean, but here is a good attempt:

R. Reuschel 1973
D. Dravecky 1983
J. Montefusco 1978
M. Krukow 1983
J. Burkett 1990

Bullpen

S. Garrelts 1987
C. Lefferts 1984

So for the rotation I had to get a bit creative, since Garrelts doesn't have a starter card and the others aren't in ATG. However, most of the players used were on the roster or around that time frame so close enough.

I will fill in the roster with other Giants and players from this period to round things out for a $60 million no DH cap league.

If anyone is interested in doing a similar team and joining a theme along these lines, post the roster and come join.

The 1977 Orioles

Postby Cruiser » Sat Sep 17, 2011 7:36 am

C - Rick Dempsey (1983)
1B - Lee May (1970)
2B - Richie Dauer (1983)
3B - Doug DeCinces (1982)
SS - Mark Belanger (1974)
LF - Larry Harlow (1979)
CF - Al Bumbry (1983)
RF - Ken Singleton (1980)

Bench
Eddie Murray (1984) - '77 was his rookie year
Terry Crowley (1975)

SP - Jim Palmer (1975)
SP - Rudy May (1970)
SP - Mike Flanagan (1982)
SP - Ross Grimsley (1977)

Bullpen
Tippy Martinez (1983)
Dick Drago (1978)
Ed Farmer (1971)
Dennis Martinez (1978)
Scott McGregor (1983)

I'll have to get creative with the rotation, as Dennis and Scotty's cards are pure SP. In '77 they spot-started and pitched long relief.

I was surprised how many guys from that team are in ATG, I was also (yet again) amazed that team somehow won 97 games that year.

OK here we go, the Bambi's Bombers era Milwaukee Brewers are ready to take on you punks. Yup, we have mullets and big walrus mustaches. We hit towering home runs, smash into the outfield walls, eat left handed middle relief for breakfast, and strike out swinging. We never sac bunt, because that's for pussies, and rarely steal because we're looking for the three run dinger. We play outside in Wisconsin in October and don't wear any of those wussie long sleeved T-shirts. Our favorite foods are Pabst Blue Ribbon and Red Man chewing tobacco. We listen to Charlie Daniels and Waylon Jennings on our gigantic Boom Box in the clubhouse. On our days off we go fishing with Bob Uecker and catch 20" Muskies which we eat over an open fire while playing sheepshead for money. We drive El Caminos with 454s, or Camaros, or Harley hard tails with ape hangers. Our wives smoke unfiltered cigarettes, wear tube tops and cutoffs, are smoking hot, and could still beat the crap out of you.

We are the Milwaukee Brewers:

Shoot, I spent so much time on my "clever" post that none other than Bernie beat me to the punch with a Milwaukee team. Bummer. Oh well, maybe next time.

Bernie, you need to live up to my description of the Bambi's bombers era Brew Crew.

Oh, man, now I feel bad. If you put the team together already and haven't dismantled it, please take my spot. I'm not squeezing a paying customer out of a spot he wants!
