ATG Card Wish Lists

ATG Card Wish Lists

Postby george barnard » Sun Sep 18, 2011 8:59 am

Now that we have seen the first cards from the promised monthly additions, it is probably a good idea to repost the links to the wish lists. Keep your suggestions coming!! A reminder: SITH=Significant Impact on Team History (long playing 2B for example or a player with team record); BIP=Bill's Idiosyncratic Pick (often players who fall between the cracks, but who would have their place here one day); TEAM=players from teams that are on the team list, greatest teams by 22-year blocks and by winning percentage (I haven't finished compiling these rosters, but this is a good way of filling in expansion rosters). Please try searching the lists before submitting (ctl-F should work). Any questions, just post 'em.

I think the focus for the next batch should be players who don't already have a card in the set (Irish Meusel, Joe Cunningham, Gary Sheffield) or a single card that doesn't represent their career or playing abilities very well (Hughie Jennings, Arky Vaughan, Harlon Clift).

Paul,

These are just some arcane acronyms that I came up with to help me differentiate some categories.

SITH: Significant Impact on Team History (players with long careers with specific teams, players with team records...)

BIP: Bill's (that's me) Idiosyncratic Pick (often mid-level players that I didn't want to see sink completely into oblivion, players that I would have thought would have been asked for but hadn't as of when I added them...)

Hope that helps.

Batters:

Arky Vaughan (HOF, top 50 career hitter WAR) 1935
George Davis (HOF, top 25 career hitter WAR) 1897
Dan Brouthers (HOF, top 50 career hitter WAR) 1892 (better SLG, 600+ PA)
Bill Dahlen (top 50 career hitter WAR) 1896
Sam Crawford (HOF, top 50 career hitter WAR) 1911 or 1914 (both better years than the ones currently carded)
Paul Molitor (HOF, top 50 career hitter WAR) 1991 or 1985 (or both)
Gary Sheffield 1996
Harlond Clift - the first real power-hitting 3B - any year from 1936-1938
Jim Thome 1996 (3b) or 2002 (1b, clearly his greatest year)
Ted Simmons 1975, or one of 1977-80 - Bill James ranked him as the 10th best C of all time, and he should have that represented in his cards.
Wally Schang 1916, 17, 19, 20, or 26 are all much better than the card we have. He had a much longer (and more consistently good) career than Ray Schalk, his years with the Yankees are among his worst.
Mike Scioscia 1985 - clearly the best season for a guy who's one of the 50 best C ever. Clearly SITH for the modern day Dodgers.

Pitchers:

Kid Nichols (HOF, career top 10 P WAR) 1897 or 1898
Mike Mussina (career top 25 P WAR) 1992 or 1994
Rick Reuschel (career top 50 P WAR) 1977 or 1985 - 1985 card is an excellent 5-day starter, I think. We probably should have a few more good 5-day starter cards to make that a more viable strategy.
Kevin Brown (career top 50 P WAR) 1996 (2000 and 2003 also much better than the card we have, but 1996 he was awesome)
John Smoltz (career top 50 P WAR) 1996 (4-day) 1998 or 1999 (5-day)
Tommy John (career top 50 P WAR) 1979

Teams:

1908 DET, CLE, CHW, and SLB - the greatest 4-team pennant race ever.

Three Indians requests:

1. Grady Sizemore 2006 - 162 games, 53 doubles, good defense, bulletproof.

- this is Grady at the height of his powers and potential, before his knees betrayed him. Not many players had his ceiling back then. I'd hate for people to forget how good he was for a few years there.

2. Travis Hafner 2006 - 181 OPS+

- as good a hitter that year as I've ever seen play.

3. Ernie Camacho 1984 - 23 saves, 170 ERA+

- there are over 4000 players in ATG6. Don't tell me isn't room for a dude named Ernie Camacho.

John Smoltz should have a couple of SP cards. (preferably 1996). The guy won 14 or more games 10 years as a SP.

Dennis Eckersley should also have a SP card. (1978 or 1979)

Just a few I would like:

[b:3cd768218e]Wilbur Wood[/b:3cd768218e] '71 (Nev has also asked for this one)
[b:3cd768218e]Lefty O'Doul [/b:3cd768218e] '29, '30, '32. .349 lifetime BA.
[b:3cd768218e]Rabbit Maranville[/b:3cd768218e] - check out the MVP voting for his career. He hit .246 and .247 his first two seasons, and came in 2nd and 3rd in the MVP voting those years. Then for the next 10 years there was no MVP award. But later in his career, age 37-41 he again is in the top 17 every year except one. In his last season, at age 41 he hits .218 and is still 12th in the MVP voting. Clearly this guy was one hell of SS. Now Strat doesn't deal well with guys way beyond the curve, in this case defense. So I would like a Maranville card from one of his best offensive years, just so the guy is usable in ATG. 1922 would work because he is also indestructible that year. Assuming that Strat rates him as a 1.
[b:3cd768218e]McNally[/b:3cd768218e] '68
[b:3cd768218e]Saberhagen [/b:3cd768218e]'89
[b:3cd768218e]Tori Hunter[/b:3cd768218e]
[b:3cd768218e]Soriano[/b:3cd768218e]
[b:3cd768218e]Andruw Jones[/b:3cd768218e]
[b:3cd768218e]Rollins[/b:3cd768218e]
[b:3cd768218e]Hanley Rameriz[/b:3cd768218e]
[b:3cd768218e]Irish Meusel[/b:3cd768218e]
