I had he pitchers to make it happen, but 6 of my scrubs would have had to come from elsewhere, which probably violates the spirit of the theme. So I am withdrawing that entry. If I can come up with a team before this fills, I'll be back. 8-)[/quote:df6d1f4c3b]

There are 25 [b:eb4441d5f9]1946 Boston Red Sox[/b:eb4441d5f9] cards in the game. However, I probably would have to use a cheaper Tex Hughson card, and/or find a couple of other different cards or cheaper versions, in order to fit under a $60m cap. By my rough head count, they would be about $3.something mil. over the cap right now. Count me as in, IF you don't mind two Boston Red Sox teams or if Ranger Joe doesn't want back in, and I can cheapen a card or two, or find a few cheaper alternatives.

I've entered the Depression era Athletics; had to borrow two .50 pitchers from the Tribe of that era and the .50 Bragan from the Phils to make it work, but the crew is assembled!

For this theme, I am not trying to be huge on the rules, when it comes to roster assembly (in the past, I have run similar leagues under very strict guidelines trying to produce teams/players with similar stats). So if you need to downgrade a player or want to upgrade a player because you have cap space that is up to you.

My general thought is if I wanted to play with a 1970's A's team for example, but Catfish was my favorite player and I wanted to use his best card (72 I think), that would be the year I chose and then fill in around him. The results might be the same as the 1973 A's (because that is the team roster with the most cards in ATG) but with Catfish replaced for 1974, but the spirit is that I wanted to use the 1972 season built around my favorite player and I filled in the best fit for the players around him. Now if I went that route I would use Duncan as catcher instead of Fosse, and the OF might be a bit tougher to figure out, but I think you get the point. How you interpret best fit for each of you I am leaving up to you.

For me, the 1989 Giants neatly fit into my favorite team as well as best seasons by the two stars from that team. And the fact that the 3B for 1989 isn't represented so I upgraded to M. Williams 1990 which is an obvious plus for the online team. However, for me personally, if there was a 1989 Riles or Williams card in the set, I would have used it, because this team is suppose to be the 1989 Giants.

I leave it to each of you to interpret your own rules in putting together your rosters, because at the end of the day its about playing with favorite cards/players that you would otherwise never/rarely use (have you seen Uribe and Thompson as anyone's DP combo often in ATG?)

Lastly based on teams people are discussing including, if you chose a team which overlaps a key player (i.e. Cubs and Dodgers for Cey) I would expect the team entered later in the process to figure out who they will use as a replacement.

then I'm going to change to a better Clemente (possibly, money may not work) after the draft runs. I already entered my team so can't do it now.

Also if you can find most of your starting line up and a few of the key starters/relievers in ATG, then don't worry about fielding the bench players (otherwise, only the teams originally in the ATG games could be fielded). So the Cardinals 1985 example is a perfect fit for this theme.

The spirit of the league is just the key players on the roster. For the 1989 Giants, my entire bench is players for the most part not on the Giants roster. I used other ERA Giants where I could or else players around the 1989 season as a fall back. Most of my starting rotation, did not pitcher for the 1989 Giants (since ATG doesn't have the cards), but I used players that pitched for the Giants of that period as a fall back when I could.

Again this is about having fun, so if you can produce enough of a roster for your favorite team/year to make it work for you, then fill in the blanks.

Let me again reiterate that once this league runs, there will probably need to be some players traded around. Especially if I used bench players, that were actually on someone elses roster, thats where the bench players should go first and I would then find some other scrubs to fill in.
