[quote:736ac8c1a0="El-Saltman"]Having just had one of my teams copied by another manager-
(hes in the same division as my team in another/other league(s), and put on players that probably most people wouldn't have on their draft card for that park as a first option, and were not compensation as the manager claimed to me, since they were also on my draft card)
I am wondering how the community feels about this in general?
Is it okay to do it under any circumstances?
Is some copying okay as long as its not a whole team?
Where do you think the lines are?
Recognizing that everyone looks at everyone else's team Im not referring to a player here or there- nor obvious stuff, like you put Bob Gibson on in a righty park, or a Barry Bonds type player.
Im talkin bout copying a ballpark (not unused but not a super popular one), putting the same players on your draft list as were on the team you looked at while making maybe a few changes for the players you felt could be improved on.
Please weigh in:
PS: If you are curious, I will post the 4 or 5 players that lead me to the 'mimicking' conclusion and the park.[/quote:736ac8c1a0]
Kind of takes the fun out of the game to just copy completely someones team. But that said, I don't think anyone has copyright protection to a team. Lots of people use DiamondDope to help build a team. Major league teams copycat other successful formats, etc.
Some posters make the comment that it is not about whether one legally can do this or not but that it is not cool. I understand and respect those sentiments. Like I said earlier, it takes the fun out of team building to just copy, but I don't really have an issue with someone choosing to spend their money that way. The pool of players is so deep that "most" players can be replaced with a similar performing player anyway.
