Example...I won't have Ellsbury on my 2010 roster but want to have him on my 2011 rosters. Is that okay? What do I have to do to make that happen when the time comes?

Of course, you can use anyone from your 30 man, add/subtract as you wish.

Leave 2011 players off your roster, they are in the "minor leagues", no one else can claim them (can't claim anyone anyway). If you want to switch players between your active roster and minor leaguers you can do so at will, as long as you don't go over the cap. If a player is injured you can just call up a replacement from your minors and carry the 26 (or more if multiple injuries) until the injured player is healthy. See the rules for exact timing on injuries.
