Torre & Gibson 6 hits each, same team, same game!

Postby BDWard » Wed Sep 28, 2011 12:53 am

Under the big games category, Josh Gibson & Joe Torre each went 6 for 6 with 5 RBI for the Murray Park Mayhem, with Gibson powering 3 HRs and Torre adding a blast of his own. In addition to the 3 taters, Gibson added a pair of doubles, giving him 17 total bases for the game. In addition, Gibson set a record in the runs scored in a game category with 6. What's even more impressive about this dual hitting exhibition is that it occurred in 9 innings and was in a playoff game. As an aside, I'm not sure how Torre managed to have 5 RBI, with Gibson batting right in front of him and knocking in all those runs ahead of Joe.

Runs in a game: T. Williams 7

The Splendid Splinter scored 7 times, while teammate Tubby Scales scored 6 times in this blowout:

Also note that the 37 runs scored in a game appears to be a team record.

Joltin' Joe goes 6 for 6:

Also noteworthy is that 7 first basemen were used during the game (4 for one team and 3 for the other team), with 3 first basemen being injured. 2 of the players who played first base during the game don't even have the position listed on their cards!
