A very low class organization.

Good for the usually limp Mets brass for finally sticking up to the Yankees. usually, they do stuff like sending Rivera the rubber from Citi Field to celebrate his 500th save or doing nothing after Roger Clemens throws at Mike Piazza's head or throws half a bat at him in the World Series.

While Sandy Alderson does know what he's doing, is there now any doubt that what can go wrong will go wrong?

[quote:ed1e2b07a9="scorehouse"]let's see if i get this right? lackey's a bum because he's divorcing his wife....who has cancer. why would she want to be with him anyway? i was always told "stayed married because of the kids" not the cancer?[/quote:ed1e2b07a9]

Obviously we don't know the circumstances about Lackey's divorce, but it doesn't look cool. Maybe they weren't getting along before the cancer. Who knows? And maybe it's no one else's business, but he is in the public eye. So he's going to get scrutinized more than the average joe. He gets married in 2008, his wife has breast cancer and he files for divorce? Public perception is going to be that the guy is a douche-bag and that he's an pro athlete who is probably cheating on his wife anyway.

It really is a test of how much you really love someone when they come down with a life threatening illness. I have a neighbor around my age (40's). He got married early and a few years into his marriage, his wife was diagnosed with MS. She's pretty bad now, but he is with her for the long haul. He doesn't have kids. You can tell he loves his wife by the sacrifices he has made and that he doesn't have a hint of regret. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I have a lot of respect for him.

I have known a couple guys over the last few years who are in "unhappy" marriages and told me they thought about getting divorced. That is until they found out how much it would actually cost them to get divorced. Between alimony and child-support, they couldn't afford it.

[quote:121c392edd="The Rabid Wolverines"]Then they have to try and get rid of Jason Bay. So far, he has been a disaster considering his salary.

Let's play GM

I'll trade you Alfonso Soriano for Bay.

Reyes is certainly not the first guy to sit out to earn an award or avoid a record (Jose Hernandez sitting the last few games for the Brewers to avoid the strikeout record), but he certainly handled it with as little class as humanly possible.

Reminds me of the old Leon Budweiser commercials:

"There's no 'I' in team."

"Ain't no "we" either."
