Great night to watch baseball, flipping back and forth between two, now three close games that really mean something. Gotta figure the Rays will pull this one out against the Yankees AAAA team.

Some amazing games - so often, the clutch games end up being blowouts.

Can't wait to hear the uneducated among Red Sox nation grouse about the Yankees not using Rivera to close it out, but every team would do the same thing in the same situation.

Would Johnson have hit the HR off of Rivera? Probably not, but we'll never know. And, as a Red Sox fan, I couldn't care less what the Yankees do/don't do. Sox have no one to blame but themselves for the do or die situation they are in now. Was feeling pretty good with the Yanks up 7-0 going in to the 8th, but I tip my cap to the gutty, never say die Rays. Makes it easy for me to know who I will root for, IF the Sox don't make it in to the playoffs. But until/if that happens, go Sox!

On the flip side, Papelbon choke
Red Sox choke

1st and 3rd, no outs in top of 9, Sox can't score

bottom of 9th
2 out, no one on
Double
Double
Single

Just like my strat teams

Yep. Heartbreak in Boston and Atlanta tonight. But, Cards and Rays wanted it more, and they earned it. Longoria was a beast tonight. Looking at him just accents how little BAvg means. He is below .250 for the season, but his defense and clutch HRs carried the Rays, along with their pitching. Not sure his SOM card for next year will reflect that. Oh well. Pulling for a Milw vs TB WS, I think, despite how unlikely that sounds.
