Reyes

Postby doug_tucker10 » Thu Sep 29, 2011 12:00 pm

The Mets are crazy if they give Reyes the contract he is expecting..he's already injury prone and he will break down again and the Mets can then have the dynamic duds with Reyes and Bay. I've never been a fan of Reyes but the Mets need him, just not at his probable asking price.

I'm a Mets and Red Sox fan..bad day yesterday :D .... I will remain a loyal fan in spite of the recent results :O:O:O...

Personally i dont care that he left the game early..the game was meaningless, as was mentioned earlier if Reyes had played then tore up his knee(actually he has bad hammy's) or had gone 1 for 5 and lost the batting title everyone would have been on his case about that. Its not what he does but how he does it, annoys the heck out of me anyway.

James Gang has it right. To which I add: The media is set to bash the Mets no matter what. Jose would've been excoriated no matter what he did. For example, if he'd stayed in the game and gone 1-for-5 and *if* Braun had had a great night, then Jose would be called "dumb" and it'd be "you see, the Mets are just a bunch of losers, they've never even had a batting title winner ha ha ha."

It's the last game of a lost season. Who cares?

And as a Met fan I say, if they can sign Jose to a good deal then sign him. If he wants too much money or too many years, then let him go. Just like any other player.

No Class

Reyes is the Mets best player and he sits out to protect an individual record? He bunts for a hit (what a weak weak move - that's like getting no hit in the 9th and dropping a bunt down - it's within the rules but it's really weak) This speaks volumes to me about about what kind of player he is and the organization that condones it. You really want your franchise player doing that? You cannot have your best player also be selfish - its about stats with Reyes, not wins and losses. This all says "Salary Drive". The guy is gonna get his money one way or the other and some foolish team will overpay for an injury prone player with a questionable character. Maybe he will be the missing link for a team to put them over the top - I can see the Giants, Braves, Red Sox making a play for him - he does have talent but he is hurt all the time and as he gets older will only break down more frequently and the Mets would be wise to let him go. I don't understand Mets fans thinking in keeping this guy at all costs-should have traded him at the deadline and gotten some prospects for him but of course thats asking too much because it's the Mets!

Wasn't Reyes injured just before the trade deadline? He was hurt at least 3 separate times this season, not all DL's that i remember.

I don't see an issue with bunting for a hit. Unless you have the skills, it's not a high percentage move. If you do have the skills, then good on you.

I think it does stem from the top level of the org. And a manager in this situation with integrity would never even consider removing/protecting his player. That would speak volumes to the team on character. Even more so if the owner fires the manager on the spot for such a selfish move. What a powerful way to lay down a vision and standards for what it means to be a Met.

You play the game to win as a team--but if the management acts to accentuate the individual glory over the team, that's a standard the players will live/play by. Reap what's sown.

It's pretty sad. But not unexpected from the Mets.

That pretty much sums it up. I agree you are totally on point. The Mets need to be smarter about the money they pay for players.

I think Jason Bay is getting around 18mill. What has he done for that?

Most people in the U.S are lucky if they still have jobs. And what is a pay raise? I can't remember the last time I saw one of those. Everytime I come back from vacation there is another empty desk.

These players are getting paid a ridiculous amount of money and most people can't afford to take their families to the stadium.
