The constant winning makes up for everyone else's constant whining.[/quote:c681ab9614]

But PKB gets very defensive whenever payroll is mentioned.

As I have always said, as long as the Yankees are willing and able to outspend everyone else and outspend almost every team by 50% (26 of 29 teams in 2011), they will never, ever have another losing season.

Mazeroski was actually a pretty good power hitter. He just played in a very HR-unfriendly park in a moderately HR unfriendly era. If he and Ryne Sandberg had switched ballparks and eras, I suspect it would be Maz, not Ryno, with the career HR by a 2B record.

If you've ever seen him up close, you would expect him to have hit a lot of HR's - he has a very muscular build.

If I were very defensive, I would take this apart.

I'll say it for you Max: The Yankees still have the potential to have a losing record. Any suggestion to the contrary ignores the power of Yankee management to misspend said money. :D Glad to "help", Max.

Depends how you define "losing". A yankee fan defines it as anything less than a championship. Others have lower standards. Last losing season was 2010...

As for spenders, Cubs, Dodgers, Mets, Orioles...them are some expensive wins...not that there are many of them.

I think it's funny that fan support $ (tix, merchandise, media) is discounted. Why do we support? Because they are successful and the management commits to keeping it that way by investing our dollars. Big market isnt the driver--plenty of big markets fail. Some small ones do very well, but they do typically have to be smarter on smaller margins.

Why would a fan complain about other owners when they should be asking their own: so what did YOU do with the luxury tax the Yankees put into the team's coffers? Pocket it? Usually, yes, they did.

And regardless of the whining, the facts are the Yankees have had a well developed farm system and balance with veterans since the Stick (Gene Michael) had taken the reins on development--but we're headed back into the Danny Tartabull/Ed Whitson era if we're not careful (i.e. R Soriano). But then again, we did get the Cubbies to buy Alfonso Soriano...

It is. During the post season, every year, I find it impossible to focus on football. And it's just so difficult being on European time to try and watch the game before work!

As a Yankees fan among Cubs fans in Chicago, I can tell you the manic depression of Yankees fandom is a lot harder than the major depression of Cubs fandom.

The ups (rain canceling Verlander's start, Nova in game 1 relief, Grandy's catches, the ongoing abuse of Al Alburquerque*, AJ Burnett actually pitching well for 4.67 innings) and the downs (Miguel Cabrera, Verlander, Game 2) are actually hard. And doing it just about every year since 1998...

The wins do make it all worth it...
