How many of you played the board game?

My first experience was the 1963 set. My friends and I played them for three or four years, drafting teams each year, and playing short seasons, keeping solid stats.

A lot of fun. I introduced my son, who used the late 80s, early 90s sets.

My son already is planning to introduce HIS son (my grandson) to Strat as soon as he can count chances. (He's just a year old . . . it might be a few months.)

My first game came with the 1980 set and I bought every set for many, many years, and tons of old seasons too. I used to play 54 game seasons, the extrapolate all the stats X3 to compare with real life. I usually played solitaire style, basic game in those days, managing both teams (and TRYING to be true to the teams I didn't care for as well). But sometimes you just HAD to send Yogi home from 2nd on a single* with Oliva in RF! I kept track of 2B, 3B, HR and RBI for batters and K's and W's for pitchers. All with tick marks in a notebook. There was a beauty to that.

And half the fun was keeping a continual play by play (with color commentary) going in your head the whole time! Sometimes even out loud!

One of my favorite memories was playing a game with my grandfather, who was a huge Yankees fan and had watched the '27 Yankees himself as a young man. I had the 1980 Twins, so it must have been '81 or so. He started Heb Pennock - I remember him saying Pennock had been a reliable starter. I also remember him referring to Joe Dugan as "Jumpin' Joe Dugan". First time I had heard that at the time. I scratched out a couple runs, but he won 8-3 or something like that. I still have the box score in the archives somewhere. I remember being in awe of looking at the long column of Homeruns on the Ruth and Gehrig cards. He died in about 1986 at the age of 87, so I am glad I played him when I did.

I have also played my oldest kids, but the fire isn't there. They are polite about it though. They think their Dad is a geek, but I know I am really cool! :)

ive played them all going back to when i was about 9 years old with All Star Baseball, used to even take that game with me to school and play against classmates during free time..when i was even younger my father taught me how to play "dice baseball" just using 2 dice, i think rolling a double 6 was a homerun. Never got to play any sophisticated bb game with my father but he instilled in me the great love i have for baseball.

Wish I had some stories to share but I didn't know that Strat existed in any form until I started playing this version two years ago. I grew up playing APBA.

I just rolled a couple games on Tuesday night. I'm in the closing stages of a 1988 tournament that I started on News Years Eve and tonight I intend to roll Game 7 of the AL Finals while watching the Game 5s.

I own the PC game as well and play it too. There is a thread at the StratFan Forum that has been going on for a week or so regarding Cards&Dice (C&D) v. the PC experience. The PC game is great, the stat keeping is wonderful and I highly endorse it. But there is just something special and nostalgic that makes me crack out that board a least once a week.

I played it, but we only used the basic version. I'd like to try the super advanced . . . of course, I'm not real thrilled with Strat at the moment...

yep. 1982 season was the first. was the coolest thing ever at that time.
On my C64, I played Micro-League Baseball. Ahh, the stick figures of MicroLeague and the 5 pound breadbox-sized floppy drive.
