My first Championship

My first Championship

Postby theavgjoe » Sat Oct 15, 2011 5:41 pm

After finishing one game out of the playoffs with my first team, I entered the ATG leagues competition. With the next six teams I was positively awful, usually finishing comfortably in last place. I could not understand why I was doing so badly because I had a very good understanding of baseball, having been an avid fan all of my life. With my last team, having selected players that had performed well in the home ballpark, I did so poorly that I had decided to give it up all together. After being encouraged by several of you to give it one more try, I reluctantly decided to do so and I am so glad I did.

With three games to go in the season all I had to do was to win one against the last place team to win my division, but my team laid an egg and I lost all three games and tied for first place in my division. I then proceeded to win four out of five games and faced off against the team that I had tied for the division lead. I won three out of the first four games and began to think maybe this game was not so difficult after all. I then lost the next two games rather handily and barely eked out a win in game seven for the Championship.

Thanks to all of you who gave me assistance by responding to my emails for help in understanding this game and who encouraged me to continue.

After your first SOM championship, it is tradition to run naked around your block with a torch in your hand yelling out the name of your team...

congrats..

Hey, I remember that thread! Good thing you stuck around. Congrats.

The only downside is that you are now disqualified from the Ring Fling, a league to which I am apparently the only available participant.

With 441 home runs, you sure this wasn't "hit it honey" slow-pitch softball?

Good work. Enjoy.

My very first team in SOM...a winner!!! I had no idea what I was doing, should have kept it that way.

As the loser against you in the finals I once again tip my hat to you and hope that this taste of victory keeps you interested. We need the managers and I need to exact my revenge.

Job well done.

Congrats! Winning is always sweet but the first is usually the sweetest.

I do feel a note of caution is in order here. I would not try a repeat performance with this team. Sosa in CF and Canseco in right is not advisable, nor is making Wilhelm the bullpen workhorse in Coors. Mclain also is not suited to that park and Ryan not suited to 140M. Most leagues are not generally not so forgiving of so many holes, especially at 140M and up caps.
