Really?

Postby motherscratcher » Wed Oct 19, 2011 8:49 am

I've only made a few trades. They were proposed by more experienced players, and I don't think I was taken advantage of, but with my level of expertise I can honestly say I'm not sure.

I've offered a few trades that I thought made sense that haven't been accepted. I didn't think they were ridiculous. My hope would be that if I offered a dumd trade, the other player might let me know exactly why it was dumb.

That being said, I can't envision a scenario where I'm offering up Bonds for Cristobal Torriente and and Jim Thome. Or Vice Versa.

Status: read

Subject: TRADE OFFER: No subject

You give up:
Franco, John (1988) ($4,660,000)
Allen, Dick (1969) ($5,820,000)
Scott, Mike (1985) ($2,700,000)
Rogan, Bullet Joe (1801) ($7,860,000)

Other team gives up:
Buford, Don (1965) ($3,770,000)
Friend, Bob (1960) ($6,600,000)
Rizzuto, Phil (1949) ($2,500,000)
Winfield, Dave (1986) ($4,480,000)

It's his right to send this....It's my right to not only accept, reject or countrer it but voice an opinion if I so choose.....And here's the double standard....If I sent this, I'd be labeled a shark trying to take advantage of someone...This guy gets defended by some suggesting he just trying to better his team.

Frustrating I agree but still within their rights. I might even agree not wise on their part. But still within their rights. That is all I am saying. As long as it is not coordinated collusion they paid their money and can run their team as they see fit.

Could it be when a person drops a good player it is because they were frustrated nobody would offer them fair value? There have been times I had more talent on my roster than I could afford but could not get anyone to give me fair value for anyone. In the end I chose to drop one of the players and let it be first come first serve rather than accept a completely unfair trade.

Bottom line: When I want to do trading and put a little effort in I usually make a half dozen or more trades per team. Trades are possible if you are reasonable and fair with what you ask and offer. Just saying consider the possibility if you are finding trading impossible that it might be your approach. Not saying it always is but or even is the case most of the time but a possibility you should consider if consistently unable to do any trading.

Absolutely you have a right to voice your opinion. Nobody, especially me, is telling you that you do not have that right. When you post that opinion on a public board though everyone else has a right to express their opinion about your opinion. Lighten up. Don't get so bent out of shape if everyone does not agree you have been a victim.

Bottom line you exercise the right to express an opinion extend that same right to express an opinion to others. Don't go flaming everyone just because they do not rubber stamp what you say. That is counter productive.

The second I saw this offer I knew who sent it to you-
because this person consistently sends stuff like this when he thinks you need something- in this case an SS.

The problem continues, because if you send back a fair or even small overpayment it will just get declined.

I do agree with you on one thing V- there is no purpose in alienating another manager if possible to avoid it.
But sometimes the frustrations mount quickly- when as you suggested- you are trying to be fair- yet the other person is not.
Its not always easy to just say Im not gonna deal with him, because sometimes that person has the logical fit.

What does that trade offer have to do with someone preferring Vlad to Aaron?

It is your right to do so. But what has it ever accomplished other than making people shy away from sending you any offers at all?

Plus I have received what I considered uneven offers from at least half of the people who complain on these boards about unfair offers being made. But I choose to either make a counter or simply decline instead of running to the boards and tattling on them like some little kid. As a consequence I get more fair trades negotiated and completed. Negotiate instead of whine works believe it or not.

If there is anyone out there who prefers Vlad to Aaron in any circumstance, park, or cap, please join more of my leagues. I have been struggling lately and could use the boost.

It works with 'SOME' managers- The ones who aren't looking to 'beat' you in every trade- it works with the ones who will speak to you in a negotiation, and not send back, or decline offer after offer without saying a word.

Most trades aren't gonna be percieved as even- thats okay its hard to make an exactly even proposal...
But there is a big difference between uneven and a trade like the one Nev posted- which are the ones that I think are the issue;
where clearly the other manager is trying to take huge advantage of a percieved need.

BTW- I, even in those kinds of deals, TRY and point out what I think the issues are.
There's a manager in a current league I did that with- who then went on a tirade about me telling him a deal was unfair- which sadly, isn't even what I said.

DAMMED if I do...Dammed if I don't.

I solve the uneven trades like Nev posted by just hitting decline. I handle the multiple offers by simply responding that players they want are not available or stating they will need to up their offer a lot. Result: I do not have the problem you describe.
