NLD Twenty-Nine!

Joe, thanks for the response. You have had some bad luck early with Tulo, there is no doubt. But that's the risk you take with him. Same with Utley, who has been healthy so far. But the inevitable will come for me too!

I think you are not connecting some of the dots with your team though. Your SP's are giving up more earned runs than they should because the base runners they are allowing are a) staying on the bases and b) advancing to the next base at an alarming rate. Is the OSB % an anomaly? Maybe. But HAL has attempted to steal against you 69 times so far, and you've only managed to gun down 7 of them. So I bet he'll keep trying.

You're also missing (ignoring? 8-) ) my main point, which is that whatever system you are using to evaluate cards appears to be flawed, especially in this card set. At some point you have to accept that there is more than bad luck involved here.

Keyz, Congrats on the no-no.

Big M,

Sorry for the shot at Utley. I was a little ticked and a little buzzed when I wrote that. Thanks for being so gracious. I'm sure my pitchers are giving up runs due to the lack of DP and the plethora of SBs. I think the SBS are an anomaly as I don't thik I've ever seen a team give up a 90% success rate with THAT many attempts. I Also think that it's the NUMBER of BRs that's killing me, not the number left on. Do you think that these guys, in AT&T should all be this bad? I mean, it's pretty brutal when Zito has your best BA v RHBs don't you think? You have to admit almost across the board, there are some huge anomalies in the pitching. IMHO, only Zito and Hanson are close to what they should be.

Our hitting is starting to get to some sort of normalcy after a tough start, but the pitching's OB/Ave/Slugging is still pretty far off IMHO.

So, yeah, you're right in a way. Something is clearly off for me with this set, at least the way I like to build teams. One of th reasons I had only one AD team is that I just couldn't find a team I like. I really thought in the last NLD we had a good shot, but we just folded up down the stretch when Pedroia went out like Tulo is doing now.

Thanks for the thoughts, I always enjoy them even if I don't always agree! 8-)

Thanks Joe. But when I referred to runners 'staying on base', I didn't mean LOB (which is of course good for ERA), but rather the fact that you don't turn nearly enough DP's to clear them off. I'm leading the league in DP's turned, which no doubt helps my team pitching numbers.

Just curious, but do you think your staff 'should' perform better than mine? I would take mine over yours every time. Throw in my far superior team defense and speed, and I'm not at all surprised in the current standings.

You have OUTSTANDING D. So, net, I would expect you to be better. Given the same D? Then I think our pitching is slightly better. At least in terms of how you've used it. '

You're not not getting nearly enough IP from Thornton. way too many from your < 1 mil pitchers.

The SPs are similar except that Zito is much better than Richard. Also, since most teams hit LHP better I would expect them to be better.

Thornton is better than Wilson, but you haven't used him. Downs is better than Belisle. Purcey is probably better than Masset, but that's sort of park dependent. Logan is better than Mijares and Tejada is better than Contreras.

Given your D, you should be better. Should I be at the bottom? I don't think that's even close to what you would expect given the pitching staffs that are picthing in the HR parks in this league.

Wow, so now we are 3-20 without Tulo. That's just crazy.

Wilson is 4 for 10 in Save situations.

We played 3 games in US Cell and didn't roll a single BPHR. So much for having a hitters park team.

Well bye-bye Tulo. I'm guessing he'll be very healthy for Big A (after the first six games)

Blockbuster deal:
Tulo, Huff, Miller
for
Votto, Janish, Maier

Don't know if it makes me better, but at least I won't be complaining about Tulo's injury stints!!! ;)

Thanks Big A. I hope it's a good trade for both of us.

I should add, we'll still wheel and deal. Votto, for example, isn't exactly made for our ballpark.

(Ok, with apologies to my trading partner Big A)

HOLY SMOKES! We actually swept someone! Goodness gracious that's amazing! We even won a one and a two run game to go along with a blow out.

Wilson went 1-2 in save situations (an improvement for him) and we won the game he BS'ed in extras on a 1-10 HR! (His ERA is nearly 7.00  )

Zaun got injured, but it was for 0 games.

We even hit 4 HRs in three games.

Watch out Big M, here we come! (yeah, right)

Jet - I think it makes you better.

If anyone wants Prado, give me a holler. I am 7-14 in one-run games, worst in the league. Time for some changes...
