I've used A-Rod a couple of times and have not been all them impressed. I'm currently using his 2005 card at Hilltop (playing short). He's hitting .283 on base .388 with 45 home runs and 15 doubles. I'm batting him second in a bomber lineup with about 30 left to play. I probably will look elsewhere with a salary of 10+

When he gets older and becomes even more of a defensive liability maybe his nickname will change to a hole.

Good grief!

His 2003 card is a 1e8 at SS. You think you should get that for an additional half a million or so? And his average stat line in all ballparks is 44-113-.244-.321-.502. That's not a cleanup hitter, but it's not half bad. In Fulton that card's average is 53-112-.291-.356-.591. But in Griffith '41, it didn't crack the Mendoza line.

His 2005 card hits better, but it's a 2e8 at SS. Overall numbers are 46-117-.275-.356-.533. Surprisingly, that card doesn't hit all that well in Fulton, 47-114-.278-.361-.539. That's not a big increment from his overall. And, oddly, the 2003 card out-hits it there. I suspect that's a product of the division and league environments.

Probably the best value among the top SS's is Yount, but that e26 will bite its owner now and then. And Yount hits into piles of DPs. while ARod is well below the norm of 20 a side.

It's too bad that DD doesn't track GDP's, but the TSN site doesn't either. Maybe we should get Bernie to add that stat in the next incarnation of the site.

I read a lot of complaints about Arod's cards on the boards, underperforms, not worth the money, etc. All I know is even at over 10 mil if he is not in top 2 of your draft card better have an alternate plan. He must be doing well for someone or he would be easier to get. I am betting he is also going fairly high in live drafts and usually first shortstop taken.

Has anyone used him at Ameriquest 05? I mean, he should be matched to that, right?

Also, I think people are undervaluing the 1e8. I believe it is the single best defensive card at short in the set.

I don't think anyone is undervaluing the 1e8. I think they are focusing on anything negative for 2 reasons. First is bashing Arod is a popular pastime these days whether strat or real life. Second, publicize anything negative that might serve as propaganda to discourage others from drafting to make it easier for poster to get him in a draft.

I just got him this weekend in a live draft. He is not my top pick at SS and I have not had good results with him, but... Somebody needs to bat ninth, so what's wrong with a 1e8 with speed and 40 homer potential?!
I think he is only same game injury potential as well.
Don't like him, but there are a lot worse out there.
