I also liked the articles on Bobby Shantz ( like a littler Greg MAddux with a knuckler) and Roy McMillan. Puts a "face on the players we use".
I had a subscription to Baseball digest in the 60' and70's...wish I still had em.

Think of the landfill that those glorious ladies are responsible for: baseball cards, sports magazines, knick-knacks of all kinds. Foster City, California is probably built on shoeboxes filled with assorted wonders.

Interesting article on .400 hitters, says that in 1887 walks were counted as hits ; explaining the plethora of .400 hitters that year. Not sure how long this went on, but if it had never been changed back we wouldn't have needed to discover obp recently( although some managers/gms still don't believe in it..i.e. prev. cub regime).

Hank Sauer is part of the Syracuse Wall of fame and his face is one of three on the fence at the ballpark here. (Alliance Bank Stadium home of the Syracuse Chiefs)
