Lofton vs Edmonds

Lofton vs Edmonds

Postby motherscratcher » Mon Nov 07, 2011 12:05 pm

I have 2 options:

League '34

opt 1:
Kenny Lofton 7.79
Joe Jackson 9.11 (or 8.87)
Wally Schang 3.28 catching

opt 2:
Jim Edmonds 9.17
Joe Jackson 8.87
Catcher - any of Johnny Edwards, Steve Yeager, Ray Schalk

I have Barry Bonds but he's really my only power and I think I'm doing a diservice to League 34 if I don't have another lefty who can mash a bit.

On the other hand, the best catcher arms are -2. I think Lofton might tear it up.

I'm leaning heavily toward Edmonds.

I"d definitely pick Edmonds. League '34 is a lefty HR park that needs at least 3 or 4 HR hitters from that side. I may look to add even more firepower from the left side after picking up Edmonds.

In that park, you normally would want 3-4 LH hitters that mash the ball.
Edmonds, or someone like him is a must, as Bonds already has tons of walks on his card, and if you don't have a masher behind him, he'll get walked even more.
I would look to adding at least one more LH hitting HR guy to that lineup, like this

1 high OBP hitter
2 high OBP hitter (needs to be a RH hitter)
Bonds
Edmonds
RH high BA OBP hitter
LH power hitter

Thanks, I picked up Edmonds.

Now I have Bonds, Edmonds, and 3.88 Klus in a 1B platoon.

I have 8.46 Rizzuto at SS and Lindstrom at 3B. Pretty much my only righties. Maybe have too much money there.

I could turn Lindstrom into Nettles.

Lindstrom will be fine.

Rizzuto concerns me with the amount of money.

Agreed. Get a cheaper 1 at SS-- T. Fernandez? Templeton? Bobby Wallace? Bowa? -- and find another real hitter, either LH or a lefty-bashing righty.

Yeah, I'm leary myself. I wanted a few righties on the team and SS 3B seemed to make the most sense. Very few good lefties available. I missed out on Appling. Considered Pop Lloyd.

I could always go cheap in the $2-3 mil range and use the money elsewhere...maybe Biz Mackey at catcher or upgrade a starter. I just thought I should have at least 2 decent right handers who will hit for average. League is not bad for right handed singles hitters.

True...but if you want to free up cash, fernandez is a cheap 1 at SS and hits lefties reasonably well with natural XBH...and gets a boost in that park from the left side, which he needs. He's one of my favs in that park and Dunn.
