Bernie, fix this crap

Bernie, fix this crap

Postby danielz » Tue Nov 08, 2011 4:07 pm

2 on, 1 out in the 8th.
Paul O'Neill up
Pitching change
Lefty specialist
Arroyo get out O'Neill

NOW WHY IS ARROYO, (a lefty specialist), LEFT IN THE GAME TO FACE HORNSBY?????????????????????????????????????

Why not bring in the righty specialist or the closer??????????????

Dice roll of 4-9 and 2 runs score, tying the game and we lose in extra innings.

Bernie, Instead of adding more players, why not fix the game so the bullpen works and tabs like avoid actually mean something???

I also agree. And I agree with your other post - the pinch hitting logic is far far worse than the relief pitching logic. Even with all the right boxes checked, I've gone 45 games without a single pinch hitter in one league. I think if Bernie fixes both things HAL will implode, or go Space Odyssey on us.

I doubt that SOM has authorized Bernie to tinker with the game playing code. I would not be very optimistic that this will get done.

I completely disagree. Why else did the bullpen settings evolve to Bullpen v2.0? .. The only thing SOM can control is the info on the actual cards. Everything else (salaries, in-game managing, league and playoff formats, etc.) can be altered by TSN.

yes this kind of thing sucks the fun out of it. the closer we can get to what we would do face to face, the better.

My teams keep ending up in 3rd and 4th place. I need that fixed as well.

Bullpen version 2.0 is essentially what was available in the game in 2001 or so. Bullpen v3 is available in the computer game right now, and it is miles better.

I will continue to believe that SOM is restricting what TSN can do with the game here until Bernie says otherwise.

The game is what it is. It's easily the most transparent and easiest to use sim game available.

Probably for every 5 games your teams lose because of the flaws in the computer manager, you win 4-6 because those same flaws work in your favor. I don't see any posts of the form "stole one last night when HAL went berserk for my opponent," though. I wonder why?

With this last post, I do agree with rburgh. I have never played the computer game, so I have no knowledge of how it works, but I do think that people tend to be highly critical here only when things don't go their way, rather seeing things on a larger scale. HAL does seem to make appropriate choices (given all of the circumstances), on a pretty routine basis. I guess we're all just perfectionists, and in the worlds of computer programming and simulation, I think it's pretty universal to strive for that.
