ATG VI New Card Batch #3 drops Thu, Nov. 17

Yeah I meant Valle's 86 season. But that's exactly the one I don't want to have! Back in the early days of TBA I played in a tournament in Glen Head. Valle's card was included in that set and he was pretty much the top pick in that year's draft. Thus any pretense of realism and player value went right out the window.

I don't think that we need monster cards from guys like Gates Brown who was basically a pinch hitter. And even the 1B on his card was because he played two innings at first base that year. Gates is not at all like Score or Fydrich, genuine superstars, however briefly. Gates wasn't even good enough to be considered a journeyman. He just shouldn't have any kind of significant role in ATG, IMHO. And to have Bernie include him saying that now we can stop our whining about him -- when it was really just that imbecile Scorehouse raising the ruckus -- just leaves me shaking my head.

Having "a" Gates Brown Card doesn't seem like such a bad idea,
but this card does seem very misleading and out of place in ATG...

looking at similar type cards, my first guess would put the right
side of the card as somewhere between Norm Cash (1961) and
David Ortiz. So the card would be priced $6 mil-$8 mill range, given
his injury risk? Just a guess.

At some point, SOM decided that LH batters who had less than 15% of their PA's against LHP "couldn't hit lefties" and were just automatically given cards like that. I'm not sure when this came about, but it certainly seems sensible to me. After all, if they gave him a card that would hit .500 against lefties, he would be given a lot more than 2 PA's against them.

I guess you could also throw Brian Giles right side of the card
in there as simlar. Although there is historical skew, I am starting
to think he will be more of a novelty than a highly desired card.
No defense, strictly a platoon player, high injury risk.

The gates card is good, not great, IMHO.

I didn't realize this card was based on just 104 Plate Appearences.

Id like to not have cards with so few PAs in the set, just doesnt make much sense when you have so many to choose from.
Just a thought, but maybe a minimum of 300-400 PAs for a batter and some reasonable numbers of innings for SPs would make sense?

at what point does a card become upsurd?
if a guy pitches 15 innings and lets up one hit?

anyway forgot to say thanks for the teaser.

Gates is a little better against RHP than David Ortiz (56.5 OB, 81.15 TB vs. 57.05 OB, 68.35 TB) but he is comatose against LHP where David has a little something. I am sure he will become a fixture in the game. I wish they'd made him an injury 3 or 4.

Omar looks pretty comparable to Dick Lundy with less injury risk. I'm very pleased to see this card, since I have the SF Giants coming up soon in my Franchise league. :D

Freddy Lynn is in '94 Griffey land in CF - better against RHP, much worse against LHP, less injury risk. He's an interesting salary decision. I'd put him at about $9.8 million.
